PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Penn State (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jack Daniels (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Daniels has chosen David allen coe- Jack daniels if you please as his entrance music. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Jack Daniels was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Penn State!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jack Daniels!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Tiny Johnson and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
State walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.

State has closed the distance and engaged Daniels in a clinch.

State turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
State taking a break here but Daniels is having none of it and regains half guard.
State throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Daniels is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

State is pressing down on Daniels's thigh, looking to free his foot. Daniels is holding on for now.

State is nestled in close to Daniels, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Daniels paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.

The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.

Daniels has had enough of the clinch but State keeps him there for the moment.

Daniels is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. State is defending well for now.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

State sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Daniels's guard.

Daniels looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
State seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

State is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Daniels defends it well.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

State looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
State perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



State shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Daniels manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

State decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
State looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
State avoids the head kick by Daniels.
Daniels throws a head kick that State semi-blocks.
Daniels tries for a takedown but State circles away easily

and State counters by moving into the clinch.
Daniels looking to stall.
Daniels can't break the clinch.
The referee calls for State to work.

State prevents a takedown attempt there.

State wants the takedown. Daniels is fighting it off but State persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Daniels's guard against the cage.
State cracks Daniels with a solid left hand.

Daniels working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. State doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. State manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
State advances to half guard.
State content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
State working over Daniels with some ground and pound. Daniels looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.

Daniels pushes State off looking to stand but State dives back in and keeps control.
Daniels is looking for a sweep. State is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Penn State overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Daniels is breathing heavily.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
State is figuring out what he wants to do next.
State lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
State passes the guard and advances to mount!
State pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.

State goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Daniels is on top in guard.
State with a couple of shots from the bottom there - nothing Daniels can't handle though.
State preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
State looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

State might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Daniels drops back looking for a leg! State is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and State manages to kick Daniels off! Daniels jumps back into State's guard.
Daniels won't allow State to sweep him here.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Daniels is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! State is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! State has escaped and now he's on top!
State wants to control from the top but Daniels keeps moving.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


State is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Daniels throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
The crowd cheers as Daniels lands an impressive looking overhand right. State doesn't seem phased though.
State doesn't manage to clinch there - Daniels circles away.
Daniels lands with a slapping head kick.
Donk. Daniels catches State right on the button with a cross.
Daniels lands a nice hook to State's body. State takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
State takes a kick to the side of the head.
Daniels looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Daniels slaps away a takedown attempt from State, before circling back to the center of the mat.
State throws a right hand that misses
and Daniels counters with a three punch combo that has State backing up. State nods at Daniels to acknowledge the strikes.
State tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Sloppy strikes from Daniels. Those never looked like landing.
Daniels throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

State is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Daniels throws a head kick that State semi-blocks.
Daniels takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Daniels swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by State.
Daniels is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.
A left and a right from State both land. Nice combination.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Daniels catches State with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
State drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Daniels tries to close the distance and clinch up but State swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Penn State is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
State tries to score a power double leg takedown but Daniels sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten State somewhat.
Daniels scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.

Daniels tries to bum rush State with a series of wild strikes but State uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

State fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Daniels sprawls well initially but State persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

State content to control rather than advance.
Ground and pound from State.

State postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Daniels to stand up.
Jack Daniels has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
A nice combination there by Daniels.
Penn State is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Excellent takedown into side control there by State.
State is staying tight to Daniels's torso, preventing him from escaping.

And that's the end of the fight!
Penn State showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for State, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
