PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Aaron Stanfield (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Danny Bongderson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bongderson has chosen Led Zeppelin - Kashmir as his entrance music. Danny Bongderson told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Aaron Stanfield!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Danny Bongderson!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Gwen Towbar and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stanfield tries to clinch but Bongderson is having none of it.
Stanfield slips a straight right by Bongderson.
Bongderson misses with a jab to the body
and Stanfield counters with a lovely shot to the body.
A telegraphed right hand from Bongderson misses the target.
Stanfield fails with an attempt to clinch.
A slow jab from Bongderson misses its intended target.
Bongderson misses with an uppercut
and Stanfield counters with a head kick.
Stanfield throws a leg kick that misses.
Stanfield falls off balance throwing a combination
and Bongderson counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

Stanfield pushes Bongderson up against the cage in a clinch.
Stanfield blocks a body shot from Bongderson.
Stanfield throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Bongdersons head.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Bongderson wants to get back to striking at distance but Stanfield won't allow it.

Stanfield's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Good leg kick by Stanfield there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Bongderson steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Stanfield.
Stanfield throws a body kick that misses.
Stanfield throws a leg kick which misses Bongderson's front leg but catches the back leg as Bongderson tries to avoid it.
Stanfield is looking to clinch.
Stanfield throws a wild body kick that Bongderson sees coming a mile off.
Stanfield wants to slow Bongderson down by chopping away at his legs.

Stanfield drives through and clinches with Bongderson against the cage.
Stanfield lands a right hand.
Stanfield throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Bongderson blocks it with crossed arms.

Stanfield breaks the clinch.
Bongderson moves out of range of the leg kick from Stanfield.
Bongderson jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Stanfield throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Stanfield lands with a kick to the temple. Bongderson shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Stanfield tries to clinch but Bongderson is having none of it.

Stanfield throws a nice looking combination but Bongderson bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
The fighters circling - Bongderson throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Bongderson lands the left hand.
Bongderson keeps the fight on the outside.
Bongderson waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Stanfield.
Stanfield takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Bongderson scores with a jab. Stanfield acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Bongderson connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.


It looks like Aaron Stanfield has been cut.
Bongderson lands a head shot.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Stanfield throws a right hand that Bongderson ducks under and follows up with a left that Bongderson also avoids with ease.
Stanfield swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Stanfield tries to close the distance and clinch up but Bongderson swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Bongderson throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
Bongderson throws a lazy right hand but Stanfield sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Stanfield tries to work over Bongderson's front leg with a kick but Bongderson checks it.
Stanfield tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Bongderson paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Bongderson lands with a nice body punch.
Stanfield throws a leg kick but Bongderson checks it.
Bongderson might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.
Bongderson blocks a low kick nicely.
Stanfield tries to close the distance and clinch but Bongderson swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Stanfield throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Bongderson counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Stanfield tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Bongderson is able to avoid easily.
Aaron Stanfield seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Stanfield misses with a body kick.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Bongderson throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Bongderson slips under a jab from Stanfield.
Bongderson misses with an uppercut.
Stanfield misses with a double jab.
Stanfield tries to land a front kick but Bongderson steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
A slapping leg kick lands for Bongderson.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Stanfield walks into a stiff left hand from Bongderson.


Stanfield is rocked!
Stanfield wants to clinch but Bongderson slips to the side
and Bongderson counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Stanfield is breathing heavily.
Stanfield walks straight into a right hand from Bongderson - that's dropped him! Bongderson jumps into mount and starts pounding away - can he finish?! More strikes go undefended and the referee has to dive in to save Stanfield from any more punishment! Stanfield complains about the stoppage but falls over as he tries to stand back up, so it was clearly a good stoppage.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:41 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Danny Bongderson!

Post fight, an emotional Danny Bongderson said 'Goddam! thanks to GFL for the opportunity to fight for the title!!! I WILL BE THE NUMBER 1 LIGHTWEIGHT FIGHTER ON THE PLANET!!!!! My opponent may have seemed untouchable, but i got a plan & nobody is stopping me! shout out to my bro for his fight next month!!! GFL LW CHAMP BABY!'.
