PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jon Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bob Saddi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jon Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Bob Saddi!
The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, John Mangel and Steve Erwin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Saddi shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Jones counters with a nice kick to the body.
Jones avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Saddi enables Jones to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Saddi manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Saddi pulls Jones in close to prevent any damage.
Jones has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Saddi is proving hard to escape from.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Jones stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Saddi swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Jones wanted to stand there but Saddi had control of the position.

Jones trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Jones will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Jones wants to get up but he can't break Saddi's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Saddi manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Jones manages to get himself to full guard.
Jones is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Saddi won't allow Jones to get back to his feet.
Saddi works a leg free and moves into half guard.

Jones shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Jones showed some decent athleticism there.

Jones wants to stand but Saddi has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.

Jon Jones overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Saddi is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Saddi is keen to just control but Jones is a slippery customer.
Saddi might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Jones kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Bob Saddi hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Bob Saddi seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Jones stuffs the takedown attempt from Saddi. Saddi gets slowly back to his feet.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
The fight stays on the outside here - Saddi looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Jones feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Saddi is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Jon Jones is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Saddi throws a couple of punches but he's in a bad position and they don't land.
Jones tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.

Well Jones has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
