Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, John Alphen Martirez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Dusty WarHorse!
The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Bruno Hogan and Damien Edna.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
WarHorse misses with a series of wild punches.
Martirez shoots in looking for a takedown. WarHorse tries to sprawl out of it but Martirez keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the ropes. WarHorse manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

WarHorse clinches.

WarHorse breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Martirez shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. WarHorse defends it nicely.
WarHorse is trying hard to land a takedown here. Martirez sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Martirez lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Dusty WarHorse seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

WarHorse clinches with his opponent.
WarHorse scores with a knee to the head.


Martirez is rocked!

That's one minute gone in the round.

WarHorse escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
WarHorse is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
WarHorse with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Martirez fails to land the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for John Alphen Martirez. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Martirez leaves WarHorse with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Sloppy strikes from Martirez. Those never looked like landing.

WarHorse takes the fight into the clinch.

WarHorse jumps guard.
Martirez is looking to stand up but WarHorse won't let him.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if WarHorse can do anything to dispel that myth.
WarHorse is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
WarHorse not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Martirez trying to control but WarHorse is working from the bottom.
WarHorse is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
WarHorse misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
WarHorse looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Martirez shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts WarHorse as he jumps to the side.
WarHorse fails with a takedown attempt.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
WarHorse lands with a kick to the temple. Martirez shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Ooooh, nice body kick lands from WarHorse. Martirez shrugs it off though.
WarHorse fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
WarHorse throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Oh Martirez is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

Martirez feints and as WarHorse raises his hands in defense, Martirez changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Martirez seems to have got his legs back now.

Martirez thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Martirez drops back for a leg here. A bit of a high risk move... He's looking for a kneebar by the looks of things. Now both of them are looking for submissions. Martirez seems to have locked his on tight now - WarHorse screams in pain and taps out furiously! It certainly was a high risk move but it's paid off for Martirez, as he picks up the win!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:50 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kneebar). John Alphen Martirez!
