Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Mike Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Steven Simpson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jones's entrance music is Red. A fine choice. Simpson has chosen The Fire by The Roots as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jones is looking to score with low kicks.
A slow jab from Jones misses its intended target.
Simpson shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Jones as he avoids it easily.

Jones gets a clinch.
Jones lands a body shot.
Simpson tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Jones smiles and moves away.

Jones gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Simpson tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
Simpson jumps guard but Jones turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Mike Jones has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Steven Simpson.
Simpson jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Jones walks away with a smile on his face. Simpson gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Jones tries to clinch but Simpson is having none of it.

Jones throws a series of strikes that have Simpson backpedaling.
Simpson keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
A looping hook to the body misses from Jones. Simpson does a little dance to reset his feet.
Simpson will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Jones punishes Simpson's body with a nice straight punch.

Simpson shoots in for a takedown but Jones shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

No joy there for Jones, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Jones throws a nice looking combination but Simpson bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Simpson fails in his attempt to clinch.
Jones misses with a left hand
and Simpson counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
Jones tries to close the distance and clinch but Simpson swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Jones misses with a double jab.
Jones tries to clinch up.
Simpson dives in and grabs Jones's left leg, looking for a takedown. Jones pushes down on Simpson's head and hops out.

Jones clinches up with Simpson and pushes him back against the cage.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Simpson misses with some punches.
Simpson tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Jones smiles and moves away.
Simpson tries to clinch but Jones moves out of range.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Simpson looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Jones is fending him off so far but Simpson persists. Nope, Jones circles away and we're back to standing.
Jones leaves Simpson with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Simpson slips under a jab from Jones.
Jones works Simpson's body with a nice hook.
Jones throws a series of punches but Simpson avoids them all with ease.
Jones throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
Jones swings for the body but Simpson moves out of range.
Simpson shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Jones pinned against the cage. Jones gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Jones falls off balance throwing a combination
and Simpson counters with a head kick. That will keep Jones thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!

Simpson avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Jones darts in and clinches Simpson up against the cage.
Jones wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
A frustrated look appears on Jones's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Simpson keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Jones's efforts to push away.
Jones lands a body punch.
Simpson tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Jones lands a left hand.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Simpson jumps guard but Jones turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

Simpson has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Jones is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mike Jones seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Jones wants to clinch.
Jones throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Simpson shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
