The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mellendrez tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Eyre manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Eyre misses with an uppercut. Mellendrez saw that one coming.
Eyre connects with a crisp jab.
Eyre throws the left hand but Mellendrez avoids the punch easily.
Mellendrez takes one to the chin there.
Mellendrez has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Mellendrez there as he acknowledges the shot.
Mellendrez gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Mellendrez avoids a punch combination nicely.
Eyre ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Mellendrez is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Eyre defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Mellendrez.
Eyre jabs at Mellendrez's body.
Eyre looks to land a right hand but Mellendrez moved out of range.
Mellendrez tries to close the distance and clinch but Eyre swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Eyre lands a lovely overhand right.
Eyre lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Mellendrez bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Eyre's head backwards.

Mellendrez gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Eyre.
Eyre misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Mellendrez drops his hands momentarily and Eyre takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Eyre connects with a jab.
Derrick Eyre seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Eyre lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
A swing and a miss from Eyre.
The fighters circle momentarily. Eyre darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.

Mellendrez is rocked!
Eyre is really peppering his opponent's head with punches.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
A slow jab from Eyre misses its intended target.
Mellendrez moves away from the strike by Eyre.
Eyre connects with a body shot.
Mellendrez fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Derrick Eyre is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Mellendrez misses with a takedown attempt - Eyre sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Derrick Eyre has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mark Mellendrez.
Mellendrez looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Eyre closes the distance and lands a vicious right hand that drops Mellendrez! Eyre dives in looking to finish! Mellendrez is still trying to defend himself but he's taking too many shots and the referee has no choice but to stop the fight!
