The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Spartalainen takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Nice sprawl there from Kallio as Spartalainen shoots in.
Kallio swings for the body but Spartalainen moves out of range.
Kallio doesn't succeed with the takedown
letting Spartalainen counter with a right hand.
Kallio cracks Spartalainen with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Kallio looks to land a left hand but Spartalainen moved out of range nicely.
Spartalainen throws a shot from downtown. Kallio moves away and avoids it.

Spartalainen closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Spartalainen works his foot free and advances to mount.
Kallio is really trying hard to get back to his feet.

Spartalainen looking to secure an arm triangle but Kallio defends it well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Spartalainen is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Kallio has managed to escape the submission attempt.

Spartalainen looking for a guillotine from mount but Kallio is having none of it.

Kallio tries to hold on but Spartalainen postures up.
Spartalainen lands with some strikes.

Spartalainen is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Kallio has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Kallio!
Spartalainen is breathing heavily.
Kallio has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Spartalainen is proving hard to escape from.
Spartalainen keeping moving, preventing Kallio from controlling successfully.

Kallio must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Spartalainen working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Kallio doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Kallio manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Spartalainen has his foot on Kallio's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Kallio works his way back into a safe position though.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
