Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jon Flanagan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mervin John Ruiz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mervin John Ruiz has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Jon Flanagan's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jon Flanagan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Mervin John Ruiz!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Yves DeLean and Dillan Fox.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ruiz feints a jab promting Flanagan to slip. Ruiz then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Flanagan slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Ruiz slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.


Flanagan is rocked!
Flanagan avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Oh Flanagan is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Flanagan shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Ruiz but Ruiz pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Flanagan closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Ruiz's guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Flanagan seems to have got his legs back now.
Flanagan trying to control but Ruiz is working from the bottom.
Ruiz can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Flanagan controls the pace.

Jon Flanagan has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

Flanagan scores with a takedown into Ruiz's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Flanagan trying to control but Ruiz is working from the bottom.

Flanagan tries to free his leg and advance position but Ruiz is retaining full guard.

Ruiz had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Flanagan defends it easily.
Ruiz wants to sweep here but Flanagan controlling him for the moment.

Ruiz has his foot on Flanagan's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Flanagan works his way back into a safe position though.

Flanagan will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Ruiz trying to keep a closed guard but Flanagan is proving a slippery customer.

Flanagan controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Ruiz throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Flanagan wants to control from the top but Ruiz keeps moving.
Flanagan slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Jon Flanagan just wasn't active enough.
Flanagan scores with a nice right hand.
Ruiz looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Horrible takedown by Flanagan or perhaps it was just good defense by Ruiz which made him look bad.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Ruiz doesn't manage to clinch there - Flanagan circles away.
Flanagan throws a leg kick
and Ruiz counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Ruiz closes the distance looking to clinch

and Flanagan counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Ruiz is trying to get back to full guard.
Flanagan is pressing down on Ruiz's thigh, looking to free his foot. Ruiz is holding on for now.
Ruiz is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Ruiz actively working from the bottom here.

Flanagan is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Flanagan is taking a breather. Ruiz says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Some wild striking there from Ruiz.
Nice takedown defense from Ruiz. No joy for Flanagan on that attempt.
Flanagan takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Ruiz stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Ruiz wants it to stay on the feet.
Ruiz fails in his attempt to clinch.
Decent striking displayed by Ruiz there.
Flanagan shoots in and drives through. Ruiz sprawls well.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jon Flanagan. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Flanagan dives in and grabs Ruiz's left leg, looking for a takedown. Ruiz pushes down on Flanagan's head and hops out.
Ruiz connects with a jab and follows up with a big overhand right! Oh that's hurt Flanagan! He's out on his feet! Ruiz rushes in and drops Flanagan with another big right hand, forcing the referee to stop the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:40 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Mervin John Ruiz!
