The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Schaviel tries to close the distance and clinch but Der Pate swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Schaviel displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Der Pate.

Schaviel drives through with a takedown into guard.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Schaviel stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Der Pate swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Der Pate manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Der Pate has control of Schaviel's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Schaviel regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Schaviel is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position.

Der Pate is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Schaviel to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Schaviel shrugs it off.

Schaviel defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Der Pate.

Der Pate jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Schaviel manages to avoid the submission attempt.

Der Pate is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Schaviel has escaped the position, nice work there.

Schaviel wants to get back to his feet.

Der Pate has hold of Schaviel's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Schaviel tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Der Pate cranks the arm and Schaviel screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Schaviel, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.
