PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Steven Colbert (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Austin Houston (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Houston has chosen Born of a Broken Man as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Steven Colbert!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Austin Houston!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Robert Twigg and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Colbert misses with the combination.
Colbert misses with a body shot.
Houston throws a predictable looking body shot
and Colbert counters with a series of strikes. Houston will be more careful next time no doubt.
Colbert lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Houston lands with a cross.
Houston tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Colbert paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Colbert tries a head kick but it misses.
Colbert cracks a nice hook into Houston's ribs.

and Colbert cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

Houston feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Colbert has his foot on Houston's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Houston works his way back into a safe position though.

Houston decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Houston misses with a lunging right hand
and Colbert counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Houston swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Colbert counters with a nice uppercut.
Houston throws a combination that misses
and Colbert counters with a left and a right that stings Houston.
Colbert throws a sloppy head kick and Houston moves out of range easily.

Houston throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Colbert counters with a stiff right hand.


Houston is rocked!
Colbert has his takedown stuffed

and Houston counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Colbert!
Houston is still in real trouble! Can Colbert finish him?
Colbert avoids a series of strikes thrown by Houston.
Houston seems to have recovered his senses.
Colbert tries to reverse the position but Houston maintains control.
Colbert is breathing heavily.
Houston sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!
Colbert is desperately trying to improve his position but Houston has a good base and remains in mount.
Houston looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
Colbert is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
Houston throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

Houston moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Colbert has worked his arm free - good work by Colbert!
Colbert is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Houston is thwarting Colbert's attempts to control the position.

Houston is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Colbert doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Houston.
Houston landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.

Houston seems to be looking for submissions.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Houston working over Colbert with some ground and pound. Colbert looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.

Houston decides to return to a standing position.

Houston escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Colbert isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Houston stacks Colbert on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Houston!
Houston throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Colbert works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure.
Colbert is looking to improve his position.
Houston thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Colbert's head.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Houston throws a strike but Colbert avoids it easily and moves to full guard.

Colbert looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Houston is defending well. Colbert quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Houston has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Colbert celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.
