Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Slade Mortis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mark Shaun (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mortis comes to the cage accompanied by Show me how to live. Shaun is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by The Soviettes - "#1 Is Number Two". Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Slade Mortis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Mark Shaun!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, Damien Edna and Summer Carpenter.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mortis shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Mortis trying to control the position from guard on top but Shaun is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Shaun wants to control but Mortis passes easily into half guard.
Mortis not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Shaun is looking to get back to full guard here but Mortis has managed to pass to side control instead.
Mortis scoring with strikes but Shaun is staying in there.
Mortis avoids the attempt from Shaun to control.
Mortis tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
A nice elbow there by Mortis.
Mortis trying to control but Shaun is having none of it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Mortis prevents Shaun from getting the reversal.
Shaun throwing punches from his back but nothing is landing.

Shaun defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Mortis.
Shaun is just holding on here. Mortis manages to take his back.
Mortis has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Shaun breaks Mortis's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Mortis can't keep his opponent in guard - Shaun advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Shaun is looking to take a break and control but Mortis is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Shaun is looking to advance position but Mortis won't allow it.
Shaun wants to stand up but Mortis is controlling the position.
Shaun prevents Mortis from improving his position.

Mortis works his way to full guard. Good work.
Mortis is breathing heavily.
Shaun wants to control from the top but Mortis keeps moving.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Mortis tries to clinch up but Shaun circles away and keeps his distance.
Shaun blocks a head kick by Mortis.
Shaun shoots and misses
and Mortis counters with a good, hard body kick but Shaun shrugs it off.

and Mortis counters by clinching up.

Mortis breaks the clinch.

Shaun closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Mortis to the mat! Mortis manages to get full guard.

Shaun thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Shaun wants to control from the top but Mortis keeps moving.
Mortis is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Mortis has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Shaun tries for a takedown but Mortis circles away easily

and Mortis counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Shaun's guard now.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Slade Mortis dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Shaun looks for a takedown but Mortis sprawls well.
Shaun avoids the head kick by Mortis.

Shaun decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Shaun wants to lay and pray for a moment but Mortis keeps working.

Shaun wants to work for an arm triangle but Mortis is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Mortis wants to get back to full guard.

Shaun is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Mortis defends it well.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Shaun is keen to just control but Mortis is a slippery customer.

Shaun moves nicely into side control.

Mortis is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Mortis here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.

Slade Mortis overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
