The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith keeps the fight on the outside.
Costa throws a right and a left that Smith avoids nicely.

Costa rushes Smith and presses him up against the cage.
Smith prevents the takedown attempt.
Costa tries to throw a body punch but Smith avoids it by throwing Costa back against the cage.
Costa misses with a punch to the body.
Costa changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Smith fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Costa gets caught flat footed, as Smith shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Smith seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Costa does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
