PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Darth Vader (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Page Dupont (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Vader's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Imperial March. The key to victory for Darth Vader has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dupont will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Vader scores with a body shot.
Dupont is looking to land body kicks.
Vader keeps the fight on the outside.

Vader clinches up against the ropes.
Dupont fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Darth Vader has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Page Dupont.
Dupont tries to circle away but Vader has him pinned against the ropes.
Dupont is looking for a takedown.

Vader pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Vader looks to land a combination. Dupont sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Vader fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Dupont fails to land the takedown.
Dupont looks gassed!

Vader swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Dupont.

Vader throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Dupont was covering up waiting for the punch and Vader finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Vader stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Dupont swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Vader has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Dupont had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Vader defends it easily.
Vader throws a strike but Dupont rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Dupont postures up and lands a big shot to Vader's brow.

Dupont got a little sloppy there for a moment and Vader has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Dupont has managed to get both his arms back between Vader's legs - danger averted.

It looks like Dupont might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Dupont fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Vader, pushing him back against the ropes.
Dupont is trying to drag Vader to the mat but Vader just about manages to keep his footing. He used the ropes to his advantage there.

Dupont's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Vader scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
A head kick misses from Dupont.
Vader connects with a body shot.

Vader closes the distance and clinches.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Dupont has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Vader after a bit of a struggle.
Vader is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the ropes.
Dupont tries to pull guard but Vader won't allow it.
Dupont drops down looking for an ankle pick but Vader pulls his leg out and moves away.
Dupont fails with a takedown attempt.
Vader scores with a nice right hand.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

and Vader counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Dupont looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Darth Vader dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Vader forces Dupont back against the ropes and clinches.

Dupont manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Dupont wants to sweep but no luck.
Dupont seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Vader tries to free his leg and advance position but Dupont is retaining full guard.

Vader drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Dupont manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Vader has Dupont in his guard.
Dupont is looking to stand up but Vader won't let him.
Dupont is looking to work some ground and pound but Vader has wrist control.

Vader is working an open guard so Dupont takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Dupont drives through with a takedown into guard.
Dupont is breathing heavily.

Dupont slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Vader tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Dupont wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Dupont tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Vader is pushing Dupont's head away, looking to escape. Dupont manages to hold on to the position though.

and Vader cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

Dupont with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Vader to score with a decent uppercut.
Dupont has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Dupont there as he acknowledges the shot.

and Vader counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Darth Vader has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Page Dupont.

Vader lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Vader stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Vader is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.
Vader throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Vader digs a good body shot into Dupont's ribs.
A left and a right from Vader both land. Nice combination.

Dupont takes a head kick and keeps coming.

Vader has taken the fight to the clinch.
Dupont goes for a takedown attempt but Vader pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Vader feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Duponts jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Vader smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Vader cracks Dupont with an open hand slap.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Vader closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Dupont tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
Dupont manages to get to full guard.

Dupont is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Dupont keeping moving, preventing Vader from controlling successfully.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Vader is working Dupont over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Vader postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Dupont is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Vader, into his guard.

Vader wants to get back to his feet.
Dupont winds up and cracks Vader with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Still in half guard, Dupont seems content to control.

Dupont lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Dupont lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Well, if Dupont is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Dupont is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.

Dupont has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Vader defend it? Dupont steps over the head and cranks it - Vader is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Dupont!
