PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Damien Drac (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Yente Welvaert (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Damien Drac!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Yente Welvaert!
The judges for this bout are Nard Betker, Patrick Alders and Aafke Stam.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Drac shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Welvaert trying to get back to full guard but Drac takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount!
Drac controlling his opponent.
Drac is landing with some decent strikes but Welvaert is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Welvaert is just holding on here. Drac manages to take his back.
Welvaert grimaces as he takes a shot to the body.

Welvaert defends a rear naked choke attempt by controlling one of Drac's arms.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Watch the back of the head! Comes the shout from the referee towards Drac.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Drac has the hooks in. Welvaert is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
I would not like to be Welvaert right now.
Drac has Welvaert flattened out and is raining down punches.
Drac is throwing strikes from the back here. Oh that last one was to the back of the head. Drac gets a warning from the referee. He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. Drac gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. Drac apologises and we restart here on the feet.
Drac looks to score with a jab to the body but Welvaert is just out of range.
Drac circles away from the clinch attempt.
Drac misses with a kick to the body
and Welvaert counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Welvaert.
Welvaert shoots in looking for a takedown. Drac tries to sprawl out of it but Welvaert keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Drac manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Drac closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Welvaert's guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Drac advances position into side control!
The referee asks Drac politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Drac prefers to stall for the moment though.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Drac wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Welvaert, who protects the arm well.
Welvaert trying to control but Drac flips him over like a cheap hooker and has his back!
Drac is riding his opponent, not letting Welvaert buck him off.
Drac is punishing Welvaert with strikes - can he finish him?!
Welvaert has the hand control, trying to stop the rear naked choke.
Welvaert looks gassed!
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Drac is landing with strikes from the back.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Welvaert grimaces as he takes a shot to the body.
Drac just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.
Drac lands with a couple of good shots - one to the side of the head and one questionable shot that could be viewed as to the back of the head but the referee lets it go.
Welvaert trying to control but not successfully.
Drac is riding his opponent, not letting Welvaert buck him off.

Drac is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Welvaert is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Welvaert just trying to survive but Drac is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.
Drac keeps control of the position easily here as Welvaert tries to buck him off.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Welvaert defends a rear naked choke attempt by controlling one of Drac's arms.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Damien Drac dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Welvaert shoots in looking for a takedown. Drac tries to sprawl out of it but Welvaert keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Drac manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Welvaert doesn't manage to clinch there - Drac circles away.
Yente Welvaert seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Drac darts in and clinches Welvaert up against the cage.

Welvaert breaks from the clinch.
Drac misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Welvaert fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Welvaert dives in and grabs Drac's left leg, looking for a takedown. Drac pushes down on Welvaert's head and hops out.
Damien Drac has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Yente Welvaert.

Drac shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Drac is landing with some decent strikes but Welvaert is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Welvaert is breathing heavily.
Welvaert tries to hold on but Drac pushes him away.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Drac prevents Welvaert from getting the reversal.

Drac working from mount. He moves in close and looks like he might be going for an arm triangle... He's hopped off to the side and he's transitioned into an Anaconda choke. Welvaert turning a nasty shade of purple. He's refusing to tap but he's gone! He's out! The ref rips Drac off and cradles Welvaert's limp body as Drac celebrates with his corner.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:26 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Anaconda Choke). Damien Drac!
