Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Anhel Batista (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chris Karter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Anhel Batista!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Chris Karter!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Frank Dennis and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Karter tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Batista counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Karter regains full guard. Nicely done.
Batista will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Karter looking for a guillotine here but Batista defends easily.
Batista won't allow Karter to get back to his feet.
Batista wants to pass the guard but Karter is keeping the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Karter throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Karter looking for a sweep. Not yet Karter, not yet.
Batista has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Karter is proving hard to escape from.

Karter looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Batista is working Karter over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Karter working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Batista doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Batista manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Karter might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Batista kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Batista has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Karter is looking for a triangle but Batista pushes his legs off easily.
Batistais looking to pass into half guard but Karter pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Karter is in guard.

Karter not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Karter thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Batista has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Karter is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Batista.
Batista holds on to Karter's head and controls the position momentarily.
Karter creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Batista sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

Batista is looking for a sweep.
Karter fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Karter lands a decent elbow from side control.
Batista is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Karter has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Batista feints and as Karter raises his hands in defense, Batista changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Karter is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Chris Karter will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Batista fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.

Karter gets caught flat footed, as Batista shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Batista drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Batista jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Karter not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Batista postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Karter doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Chris Karter has got the better of the ground game so far.
Karter keeping full guard, as Batista tries to pass.
Karter is pulling down on Batista's head to control his posture.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Chris Karter hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Batista has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Karter regains guard immediately.
Karter controls Batista momentarily but Batista frees himself.

Karter is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Batista is controlling Karter's trapped leg to prevent Karter from advancing to side control.
Karter is trying to control. Batista wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Karter works his foot free and advances to mount.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!



The fight moves into the clinch position.

Karter jumps guard and drags Batista to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Batista would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Karter keeping full guard, as Batista tries to pass.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Batista gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Batista has Karter pushed against the cage.
Karter is trying to drag Batista to the mat but Batista just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Batista's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Batista is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Karter gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Karter tries to work over Batista's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Karter fails to pull guard.
Karter tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
Batista is trying to pull guard but Karter has him pressed against the cage.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Karter wants to control but Batista is keeping busy.
Batista thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Karter's head.

Karter moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Batista is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Karter is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Karter has escaped and now he's on top!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Well Batista has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
