PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Hector Alves (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lawrence Trainor (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Lawrence Trainor was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Hector Alves!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Lawrence Trainor!
The judges for this bout are , Timothy Bukovac and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No luck for Trainor with that takedown attempt.
Alves lands a jab to Trainor's midsection.
Alves pivots, looking for a leg kick but Trainor is out of range and Alves settles back down.
Trainor stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Trainor wants it to stay on the feet.
Trainor avoids a punch combination nicely.
Trainor bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Alves misses with an uppercut

and Trainor counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Trainor.

Alves shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Trainor working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Alves doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Alves manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Trainor really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Alves. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Trainor can do anything to dispel that myth.

Alves tries to score a power double leg takedown but Trainor sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Alves somewhat.
A nice combination there by Alves.
Alves does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.

Trainor avoids a low kick by using good footwork.

Alves lands with an uppercut that bounces Trainor off the cage and back into range.

Alves rushes Trainor and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Trainor has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Alves after a bit of a struggle.

Alves seems like he's working for an arm triangle here. He's freed his trapped foot and he's rotating nicely. Trainor is in big trouble! He's tapping out! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!
