PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Phil Dass (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gee AsPee (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Phil Dass!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Gee AsPee!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Yamamoto, Shirou Masuda and Kenichi Hosakawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
AsPee stuffs the takedown attempt from Dass. Dass gets slowly back to his feet.
AsPee throws a right and a left that Dass avoids nicely.
Dass tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
AsPee throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Dass.
Dass shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
AsPee shoots in and drives through. Dass sprawls well.

Dass closes the distance and clinches.
Dass is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but AsPee is keeping busy.

AsPee tightens his grip and picks Dass up, before dumping him to the ground. Dass manages to land in guard.
Dass keeping full guard, as AsPee tries to pass.
AsPee is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
AsPee trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
AsPee wants to pass the guard but Dass is keeping the position.
Dass looking to hit a scissor sweep but AsPee is one step ahead there.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Dass keeping full guard, as AsPee tries to pass.

Dass working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. AsPee doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. AsPee manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
AsPee postures up in Dass's guard and throws a big left but Dass blocks it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Dass working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from AsPee.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Dass feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
AsPee is striking off his back. Dass thinks nothing of it though and passes easily into half guard.
AsPee tries to roll over but Dass keeps him under control.
Dass is breathing heavily.
Dass is looking to advance position but AsPee won't allow it.
AsPee lands with a few short shots to the body.
AsPee is looking to improve his position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
AsPee is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
AsPee misses with a leg kick.
Dass with a lazy takedown attempt
and AsPee counters with a one-two to the body.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Phil Dass. That's going to take a lot out of him.
AsPee throws a series of punches but Dass moves out of range.
AsPee fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
AsPee works over Dass's head and body with a nice combination.

Dass fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with AsPee, pushing him back against the cage.
AsPee lands a hook that snaps the head of Dass backwards.

AsPee breaks from the clinch.

AsPee gets the takedown into side control.
AsPee creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
This has been an exciting period of action!
The ground and pound from AsPee seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
AsPee working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
AsPee lands a decent elbow from side control.

Dass is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
Dass can't do much from the bottom here.
AsPee trying to control the action but Dass is working from the bottom.

AsPee stands up.

and AsPee counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Dass has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. AsPee is working away from the top position though.
Dass keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
AsPee wants to control but Dass is keeping him busy.

Dass has one foot on AsPee's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
AsPee showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Dass.

Dass scores with a takedown into AsPee's guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Dass accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
AsPee trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!
Dass trying to control the position from guard on top but AsPee is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
AsPee doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Dass slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
AsPee wants to control but Dass postures up.
AsPee is pushing Dass's head away, looking to escape. Dass manages to hold on to the position though.
AsPee is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Dass's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
AsPee missing with punches from the bottom.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
AsPee gets full guard.
AsPee wants to get back to his feet but Dass is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Gee AsPee dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



AsPee darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Dass blocking the ground and pound attempt from AsPee.
AsPee thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Dass's head.
Dass is looking to control AsPee's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Dass avoid being mounted?

Dass tries to get to full guard but AsPee has control of the leg.
Gee AsPee has got the better of the ground game so far.
Dass is staying active underneath AsPee, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Dass has hold of AsPee's hands but AsPee slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Dass on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
AsPee scores with a three punch combo!
Dass misses with a takedown attempt
letting AsPee counter with a right hand.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Dass pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Dass clinches but AsPee breaks the clinch

and AsPee counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Dass!
Dass is trying to stand up.
Dass avoids a series of strikes thrown by AsPee.
Dass keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
AsPee connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
AsPee with the ground and pound from mount.
AsPee lands with some strikes.


Dass is rocked!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Dass is wriggling around trying to escape.
Oh Dass is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
AsPee postures up and throws a couple of big shots that have Dass in real trouble here! The ref calls for Dass to improve his position which he doesn't do, so the referee has no choice but to end the fight due to the strikes!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:58 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Gee AsPee!
