Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Daniel Smith!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Chongo Jones!
The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, Damien Edna and Steve Erwin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith shoots in and drives through. Jones sprawls well.
Jones avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Jones throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Jones lands a high kick!


It looks like Daniel Smith has been cut.
Smith fails to land with a series of punches.
Smith avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Jones shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Jones was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Jones controlling the position easily from mount.
Smith holds on for dear life.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Smith takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.

Jones is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Smith has managed to escape the submission attempt.

Jones might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Smith kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Smith sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

Jones decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.

Jones lands with a kick to the ribs.
Jones throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Jones drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Smith is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Jones is controlling him.
Jones trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Jones is working Smith over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Jones seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Let's hope that Jones has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Chongo Jones hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Smith throws a sloppy head kick and Jones moves out of range easily.
Chongo Jones seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Jones darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Smith trying to keep hold of his opponent's head but Jones manages to pass to mount!
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Jones scoring with strikes but Smith is staying in there.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Jones fails to land the takedown.
Smith throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Jones's head.
Smith really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Jones closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Smith keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Jones's efforts to push away.

Jones decides to pull guard.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Jones holds on and takes a little breather.
Smith throws a big elbow that misses.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Jones has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Smith is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Jones.

Smith tries for a kimura but Jones is defending well.
Jones is looking to reverse the position.

Smith stands up and beckons Jones to his feet.
Jones throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Jones throws a combination. Smith tries to block but a couple of punches get through.

Jones fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Smith sprawls well initially but Jones persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Jones decides to stand up.
Smith throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
Jones is trying hard to land a takedown here. Smith sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Smith clinches with his opponent.

Jones pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Smith pushes Jones up against the cage in a clinch.
Smith is trying to maintain a safe position but Jones gets an underhook and turns Smith into the cage.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Smith is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Jones to keep the fight standing.

Jones breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Smith tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Smith misses with the combination.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Left hook, right uppercut from Jones.
Jones throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Smith.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Chongo Jones showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. And we move into the final round!


Smith shoots for a double leg takedown but Jones sprawls well. He's pushed Smith's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Jones scores with a sloppy right hand. Smith should have avoided that one.

Jones gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Smith jumps guard but Jones turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

Jones manages to break the clinch.

Jones fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Smith, pushing him back against the cage.

Jones works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Jones stays in close to Smith's body and controls the position.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Smith is trying to control the position but Jones postures up.
Jones has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Smith throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Jones works over Smith with some ground and pound from guard.

Smith is working an open guard so Jones takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Jones pushes Smith up against the cage in a clinch.
Jones creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Smith's defenses.

Jones gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Smith is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Smith trying to hold on to Jones's head to control him but Jones postures up.
Jones takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Smith wants to improve his position but Jones is controlling well.

Jones decides to return to a standing position.
Jones scores with a body shot.
Jones fails with a takedown attempt.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Jones fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Smith, pushing him back against the cage.
Jones has Smith pressed against the cage, preventing Smith from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Smith tries to score a body lock takedown but Jones shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Daniel Smith. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Jones pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Jones feints a jab promting Smith to slip. Jones then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Smith slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Smith shoots for a takedown but Jones saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Jones throws a nice looking combination but Smith bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Jones changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Smith tries to avoid it but Jones manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Smith to the ground. Smith escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Smith closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Smith lands in his opponent's guard.

Smith got a little sloppy there for a moment and Jones has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Smith has managed to get both his arms back between Jones's legs - danger averted.

Jones has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Smith can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Jones is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Chongo Jones is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Jones throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Jones pulls Smith in close to prevent any damage.
Smith sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Jones's guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Chongo Jones comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Jones has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
