PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Immad Khan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Malik Mixon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mixon is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Every Knee Shall Bow. Both fighters really staring each other down here, as Malik Mixon enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Immad Khan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Malik Mixon!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Tiny Johnson and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Khan shoots in for a takedown but Mixon shows good takedown defense.

Mixon closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Khan's guard.
Khan throwing strikes off his back to little effect.
Khan throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Khan is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Mixon slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Mixon wants to control from the top but Khan keeps moving.

Mixon is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Malik Mixon hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Khan fails with the takedown

and Mixon counters with a shoot takedown. Khan fights it but they end up in guard.

Mixon thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Khan wants to stand up but Mixon is controlling him.
Mixon controls from within his opponent's guard.
Mixon postures up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Khan looking for a sweep. Not yet Khan, not yet.
Mixon trying to control the position from guard on top but Khan is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Khan wants to hit a switch here but Mixon passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Khan there!
Khan tries to hold on but Mixon postures up.
Khan is breathing heavily.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Mixon is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Khan has managed to escape the submission attempt.

Mixon is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Khan is surviving well by controlling Mixon's body position as best he can.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Mixon working for a submission but Khan is keeping him at bay.
Khan is working to get back to half guard.
Khan is working hard here to advance position.
Mixon wants to control the pace but Khan is squirming around nicely.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Mixon controlling from the full mount.
Khan wants to control but Mixon is having none of it.
Mixon with a couple of short strikes.

Mixon is working for a guillotine from mount but Khan frees his head quite easily.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Khan is squirming around, avoiding Mixon's attempts to control the action.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Malik Mixon dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Khan fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Mixon has taken the fight to the clinch.

Mixon pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Mixon missing with a left hand there. Khan was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Khan shoots in for a double leg but Mixon sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Mixon has managed to clinch.
Khan lands a body shot in the clinch.
Mixon tries to land a knee to the head but Khan blocks with his arms.

Mixon jumps guard and drags Khan to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Khan stops Mixon from standing up.
Mixon has his hands on Khan's head, controlling the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Khan in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Mixon working a defensive guard here.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Malik Mixon was stalling too much, according to the referee.
The fight stays on the outside here - Khan looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Mixon displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Khan.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Immad Khan. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Mixon has Khan up against the cage in a clinch.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Mixon ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Mixon no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Mixon escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Khan gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Mixon is breathing heavily.
Khan controls from within his opponent's guard.
Khan looking to pass the guard.
Mixon is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Khan is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Mixon has a closed guard, preventing Khan from standing up.

We're going to have a standup here because Immad Khan wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Khan forces Mixon back against the cage and clinches.
Mixon blocks a body shot from Khan.
Mixon tries to work over Khan's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Mixon stalling the fight.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Mixon escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Khan shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Mixon sprawls well. Mixon wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Khan gets slowly back to his feet.

Khan tries to sprawl but Mixon drives through with a takedown into half guard.

Mixon trying to control the action but Khan is working from the bottom.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Khan has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Mixon is working away from the top position though.
Khan is not content to let Mixon control the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Malik Mixon showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!



Mixon looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Khan!
Mixon trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Khan wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.
Mixon can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Khan is looking to escape.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Mixon tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Mixon blocks Khan's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom.
Khan is looking to get to half guard.
Khan tries to lock up and control but Mixon gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
The referee warns Khan that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Mixon is giving the impression that he's looking to ground and pound but he switches suddenly into a beautiful far side armbar! Khan is forced to tap! Great finish!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:56 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Malik Mixon!
During a confident post fight interview, Malik Mixon thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
