PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Fresenius James (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jhogo Ko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Ko's choice of entrance music: DJ Khaled - All I do is win. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, Fresenius James!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jhogo Ko!
The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, Eddie Farnsworth and Lou da Vinci.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
James connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Ko tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Ko scores with a jab to the jaw.

Ko scores with a takedown into James's guard.

Ko has gone for a leg lock! James slips out almost immediately though and dives into Ko's guard.
Ko bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in James's guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Ko loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Ko thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

James pulls Ko in to control the position.
Ko won't allow James to sweep him here.

Ko is looking to work some ground and pound but James has wrist control.
James is looking to stand up but Ko isn't so interested in that idea.
Ko stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. James swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Ko drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Ko jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Ko throws an elbow that misses. James uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Ko's guard. Nice move by James!

James gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Ko tries to clinch but James is having none of it.
James takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
James slips a jab from Ko.
Ko fails with an attempt to clinch.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

and Ko counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Ko throws a head kick that misses
and James counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

James swings and misses with a shot to the body
and Ko counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Jhogo Ko seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
James displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Ko.
A clash of legs there as Ko blocks the low kick.

James takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.

Ko shoots in for a takedown but James shows good takedown defense.

James missing with a left hand there. Ko was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
James swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Fresenius James is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Ko tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. James manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
James just misses with a punch to the body.
The crowd cheers as James lands an impressive looking overhand right. Ko doesn't seem phased though.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
James feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Kos jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Ko throws a sloppy head kick and James moves out of range easily.
James slips a straight right by Ko.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Ko throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck James on the side of the head.
Ko tries for a takedown but James sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Ko tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
James throws a looping overhand right but Ko ducks down to avoid it.
Ko steps to the side to avoid the strikes from James.
Ko scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
A jab lands there for James.
Sloppy strikes from Ko. Those never looked like landing.
James keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
James scores with a body shot.
Ko might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.
Ko drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
James moves out of range as Ko strikes.
Ko throws a body punch but James moves out of range.

Ko throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
James pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Ko back to the cage. James follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
Ko tries a head kick but it misses.
Ko waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract James.
Ko tries to close the distance and clinch but James swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Ko looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? James is fending him off so far but Ko persists. Nope, James circles away and we're back to standing.
Ko with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling James to score with a decent uppercut.
James lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Ko backs up against the cage.
Ko misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
James misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Ko.

James moves out of range of the body kick.
James scores with a jab to the body.

Ko is breathing heavily.
James wants to improve his position but Ko is controlling well.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
James is not content to let Ko control the position.
Ko passes the guard and advances to mount!
Ko unloads with some shots from mount but James bucks and avoids them well.
James wants to hold on but Ko pushes him away.

Ko is dominating on the ground here - he's now on his opponent's back, looking to sink in the hooks. James is in real trouble.

Ko throws a big right hand but he misses and hits the mat. Ouch.

Ko is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but James has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Ko goes for a risky armbar from back mount and it's not paid off. James escapes and is now in half guard on top.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Jhogo Ko showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

James throws a quick inside leg kick.
A head kick misses from Ko.
Ko swings away with a body shot that misses
and James counters with a straight right hand.
James tries to clinch but Ko is having none of it.
James misses with a jab, cross combination.
James wants to clinch up but Ko keeps it at a distance.
No joy there for Ko, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Nice uppercut lands for James. That snapped Ko's head back.

Ko lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.

and James counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

Ko scores with a punch to the head.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Ko ducks under a wild hook from James.
James tries to bum rush Ko with a series of wild strikes but Ko uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Nice takedown defense from James. No joy for Ko on that attempt.

A looping hook to the body misses from James. Ko does a little dance to reset his feet.

Ko uses good head movement to avoid the hook from James.
Ko throws a sloppy head kick and James moves out of range easily.

and James counters with a stiff right hand.
James fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Ko manages to avoid it.

James jabbing away but nothing is landing.

James walks into a stiff left hand from Ko.
Jhogo Ko is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
James uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Ko.
A decent looking cross lands there for Ko.
Fresenius James has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

James throws a low kick but Ko avoids it.
Ko swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

I would just about give that final round to Jhogo Ko.
Well Ko has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
