PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Shai Tai (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Takinori Doi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Shai Tai!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Takinori Doi!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Sano, Taro Takaoka and Hirohito Nitta.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tai has a takedown stuffed.
Doi tries to clinch up.
Doi throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Doi looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
Doi tries to close the distance and clinch up but Tai swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Doi stuffs the takedown attempt from Tai. Tai gets slowly back to his feet.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Tai is defended easily by Doi.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Shai Tai. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Tai fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Tai tries a head kick but it misses.

Tai throws a sloppy head kick

and Doi counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

Doi wants to control from the top but Tai keeps moving.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Tai misses with a takedown attempt - Doi sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Tai throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Doi's waist but Doi gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Tai off to one side.
Tai is breathing heavily.

Tai tries to clinch but Doi moves out of range.
Doi shoots in for a takedown but Tai shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Doi shoots in but no luck this time.

Tai closes the distance and clinches.

Tai breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Tai throws a series of punches but Doi moves out of range.
Tai fails in his attempt to clinch.
Tai blocks a head kick by Doi.
Tai tries to clinch there but Doi circles away.

Doi drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Tai is trying to get back to his feet.

Tai is being controlled here.
Doi wants to lay and pray for a moment but Tai keeps working.

Doi decides to stand back up. Doi steps back and let's Tai get back to his feet.
Doi throws a head kick but Tai moves out of range.
Doi shoots in looking for a takedown. Tai tries to sprawl out of it but Doi keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Tai manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Tai takes the fight into the clinch.

Doi manages to pull guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Doi keeping moving, preventing Tai from controlling successfully.
Doi trying to control the position.
Tai stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Doi swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Doi is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Tai is aware though and is defending well.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Tai trying to control but Doi is working from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Takinori Doi dominated that round.

Tai throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
Tai tries to clinch up.
Tai shoots in and drives through. Doi sprawls well.
Tai is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Tai throws a hook to the side of Doi's head but Doi sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Doi fails to land with a series of punches.
Doi closes this distance looking for a takedown but Tai circles away.

Tai stands and throws Doi's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Doi is breathing heavily.
Tai advances nicely into full mount.

Tai throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Doi because Tai loaded up on that one.

Tai is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Doi has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Doi wants to hold on but Tai pushes him away.

Tai wants to finish this one by submission but Doi is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Tai.

Tai unloads with some shots from mount but Doi bucks and avoids them well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Tai can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Doi is looking to escape.
Tai controlling the position easily from mount.

Tai thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
Doi is squirming around, avoiding Tai's attempts to control the action.

Tai with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Doi is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Tai thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.
Tai tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Tai wants to take his opponent's back but Doi doesn't allow it.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Doi has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Tai finds it's way round the side to connect with Doi's head.

Tai clinches up against the cage.

Tai drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Doi gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Doi goes for a takedown attempt but Tai pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Doi rushes Tai and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Tai pulls guard effortlessly.
Tai bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Doi's guard.
Doi takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Tai passes Doi's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Doi is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Tai could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Doi is staying active underneath Tai, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Doi is looking to control Tai's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Doi avoid being mounted?

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Doi blocking the ground and pound attempt from Tai.

Shai Tai has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

Tai gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Doi has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Tai after a bit of a struggle.
Tai stalling in the clinch.
Tai goes for a takedown attempt but Doi pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Tai lands a nice looking kick to the body. Doi takes a step back to recover.
Tai changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Doi tries to avoid it but Tai manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Doi to the ground. Doi escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Shai Tai. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Tai fails to land the takedown.

Doi moves into range and clinches up with Tai.
Tai lands a right hand.
Doi fails to pull guard.

Tai jumps into guard, dragging Doi to the mat.
Doi looking to pass the guard.
Doiis looking to pass into half guard but Tai pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Tai is in guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Tai wants to control from the top but Doi keeps moving.
Tai pushes down on Doi's leg and manages to get into half guard.

Tai wants to work for an arm triangle but Doi is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Doi tries to kick Tai off in order to stand up. Tai Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

And that's the end of the fight!
Shai Tai showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Tai has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
