PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Vick Armstrong (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Neil Fisher (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fisher has chosen Stranglehold - Ted Nugent as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Vick Armstrong has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Vick Armstrong!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Neil Fisher!
The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, Damien Edna and Eliza Hachem.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fisher throws a lazy right hand but Armstrong sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Fisher throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Armstrong looks to land a left hand but Fisher moved out of range nicely.

Fisher throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Armstrong tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Fisher is in Armstrong's guard.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

Fisher not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Armstrong stuns Fisher with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.

Fisher takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Vick Armstrong seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Armstrong lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Armstrong uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Fisher.
Armstrong dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Armstrong waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Fisher.

Fisher uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Armstrong.
Fisher is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Fisher takes a little break here. Armstrong wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
Armstrong is looking to reverse the position.

Fisher wants to control but Armstrong is keeping him busy.

Fisher is trying to control the action in half guard but Armstrong is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Armstrong is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Armstrong is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Fisher is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Neil Fisher.
Armstrong buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Fisher takes a shot right to the bread basket.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Neil Fisher will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Armstrong lands a jab to Fisher's midsection.

Fisher looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Armstrong!
Armstrong tries to lock up and control but Fisher gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Neil Fisher has got the better of the ground game so far.
Fisher can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Armstrong is looking to escape.
Armstrong has given up his back.

Fisher has the hooks in. Armstrong is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.

Fisher looking to break Armstrong's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Armstrong remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Fisher will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Armstrong thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.

Armstrong manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Fisher manages to get himself to full guard.

Armstrong will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Neil Fisher showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Fisher steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Armstrong.
Armstrong dips to his left and cracks Fisher with an uppercut!
Armstrong throws a shot from downtown. Fisher moves away and avoids it.

Fisher scores a takedown into full mount!

Fisher has hold of Armstrong's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Armstrong manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Armstrong sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
Armstrong is trying to maintain the position but Fisher is very close to passing his half guard.

Armstrong is looking for a sweep. Fisher is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Fisher is trying to control. Armstrong wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Fisher lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Armstrong keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Fisher is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Armstrong still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Armstrong has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work!

Neil Fisher is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.


It looks like Neil Fisher has been cut.
Armstrong is landing with some decent strikes but Fisher is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Armstrong sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
