PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Ashida Kim (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jaramogi Nabulungi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Nabulungi has chosen Enter Sandman by Metallica as his entrance music. Ashida Kim had real problems making weight for this fight. After initially coming in at 147.9lbs, he had two hours to make the official fight weight. He made it but it will have taken a lot out of him to cut those extra few pounds. Jaramogi Nabulungi is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Nabulungi feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Kim tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Nabulungi content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.

Jaramogi Nabulungi has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Kim shoots in looking for a takedown but Nabulungi manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Kim's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Nabulungi shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Kim is trying to defend but Nabulungi finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Nabulungi drops back looking for a leg! Kim is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Kim manages to kick Nabulungi off! Nabulungi jumps back into Kim's guard.

Nabulungi is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Nabulungi postures up and lands a big shot to Kim's brow.
Kim keeping moving, preventing Nabulungi from controlling successfully.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Kim is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Nabulungi fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Kim to the ground. Nabulungi is now in Kim's guard.

Nabulungi lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Kim working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Nabulungi .
Nabulungi throwing strikes from guard but Kim blocks nicely.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Nabulungi chips away with some ground and pound.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Nabulungi drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Nabulungi works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.

Nabulungi working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Kim seems a little lost for a moment, as Nabulungi dominates the positioning.

Nabulungi has hold of Kim's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Kim tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Nabulungi cranks the arm and Kim screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Kim, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.
