PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Eaton Cox (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chemical Ali (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cox comes into the arena with Hatebreed - Destroy Everything blaring out of the sound system. Ali is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Slayer - Jihad. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Chemical Ali was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 22 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Eaton Cox!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 20 - 6 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Chemical Ali!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Frank Antenori and Timothy Bukovac.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cox scores with a kick to the midsection.

Cox scores a takedown into full mount!
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Cox trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Ali tries to hold on but Cox pushes him away.
Ali reaches up and holds on to Cox to control the position.
Cox fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Cox looking to ground and pound but Ali is blocking nicely.

Cox has hold of Ali's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Ali manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Ali slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ali keeps control of the position for the meantime.

Cox is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Ali wants to improve his position but Cox is controlling well.
Cox thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Ali's head.
Cox works his way into side control.
Ali is not content to let Cox control the position.

Ali sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Cox wants to control but Ali is keeping him busy.
Ali has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Cox is working away from the top position though.
Ali wants to improve his position but Cox is controlling well.
Ali regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Cox.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Cox drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Cox jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Cox has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Eaton Cox has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Ali misses with a takedown attempt - Cox sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Ali shoots in but no luck this time.
Ali moves out of range of the leg kick from Cox.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Ali's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!

Ali changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Cox fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Eaton Cox has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Chemical Ali.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Ali stuns Cox with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.

Cox fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Ali to the ground. Cox is now in Ali's guard.

Ali drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.

Cox shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Ali napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Cox swings around for an armbar but Ali sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Cox's guard.

Ali might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Cox kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Chemical Ali wasn't active enough on the ground.
A nice inside leg kick there by Cox. That's going to slow Ali down.
Ali lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Cox throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Ali throws a low kick, looking for Cox's leg but Cox calmly moves out of range.

Ali connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Ali ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Cox moves away.

Ali closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Cox to the mat! Cox manages to get full guard.

Cox has his foot on Ali's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Ali works his way back into a safe position though.

Ali got a little sloppy there for a moment and Cox has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Ali has managed to get both his arms back between Cox's legs - danger averted.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Cox is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Cox is figuring out what he wants to do next.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

That was a close second round but I would say that Eaton Cox will probably get the nod.

Cox is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

We're going to have a standup here because Eaton Cox wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Cox misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Ali.

Ali closes the distance and clinches up with Cox, looking for a takedown. Ali pushes Cox against the cage but Cox circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Ali on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.

Ali takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

and Ali counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Ali throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Ali has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Cox finds it's way round the side to connect with Ali's head.

Cox shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Still in half guard, Cox seems content to control.
Eaton Cox is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Cox's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Ali wants to control but Cox is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Well Cox has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

A very excited looking Eaton Cox made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
