PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Lukas Brantley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and George Coleman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). George Coleman told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Lukas Brantley!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, George Coleman!
The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Donatello Bradman and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Coleman changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Brantley tries to avoid it but Coleman manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Brantley to the ground. Brantley escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Brantley has closed the distance and engaged Coleman in a clinch.

Coleman escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Brantley throws a head kick that misses.
Brantley thuds his right hand into Coleman's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.


It looks like George Coleman has been cut.
No luck for Coleman with that takedown attempt.
Brantley scores to the head and body with a nice combination!
Brantley lands a glancing blow to the side of Coleman's head.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Brantley tries to clinch up.

Coleman scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.

Coleman tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Coleman has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Brantley is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Coleman asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Coleman is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Brantley tries to escape but Coleman is in control.
Brantley is not content to let Coleman control the position.

Coleman thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Coleman is looking to take a break and control but Brantley is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Brantley is pushing Coleman's head away, looking to escape. Coleman manages to hold on to the position though.
Sloppy strikes there by Coleman.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Brantley is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Coleman asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Brantley trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.
Coleman wants to lay and pray for a moment but Brantley keeps working.
Coleman is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

Brantley is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Coleman has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Coleman is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Coleman fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Coleman wants to control but Brantley is keeping him busy.
Brantley takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Coleman working the ground and pound but Brantley is defending the strikes.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Lukas Brantley will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on George Coleman's cut.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


No luck with that takedown attempt from Coleman.
Coleman avoids a punch combination nicely.
Brantley will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Brantley stuffs the takedown.
Brantley scores with a one two! Coleman had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.

Brantley moves in looking to clinch but Coleman pushes him off.
A punch lands to the side of Coleman 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Coleman circles away from the clinch attempt.
Coleman misses with a takedown
and Brantley counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Lukas Brantley has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of George Coleman.

Coleman blocks the body kick.
Brantley changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.

Brantley closes the distance and clinches.

Brantley works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Coleman pulls Brantley in close to his closed guard and prevents Brantley from doing any damage or advancing position.

Brantley drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Brantley jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Brantley has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Coleman throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Coleman is breathing heavily.
Brantley trying to control the position from guard on top but Coleman is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Coleman manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Brantley manages to get himself to full guard.
Coleman postures up in Brantley's guard and throws a big left but Brantley blocks it.

Coleman gets to his feet - Brantley follows without any prompting.
Coleman blocks the body kick.
Brantley stuffs the takedown.
Brantley fails with a takedown attempt.
Brantley throws a leg kick but Coleman sees it coming and moves out of range.
Brantley tries a head kick but it misses.
Lukas Brantley is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Brantley shoots in for a takedown but Coleman shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Brantley lands a nice looking body shot.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Coleman is defended easily by Brantley.

Brantley gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Brantley swings and misses with a hook to the body.

This has been an exciting period of action!

Coleman postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Coleman slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Brantley wants to stand up but Coleman is controlling him.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Lukas Brantley will probably get the nod.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Coleman looks to land a left hand but Brantley moved out of range nicely.
Brantley pulls out of a head kick attempt.
A left and a right from Brantley both land. Nice combination.
Coleman is looking to clinch.

Brantley feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Coleman's calf.

Coleman circles away from the clinch attempt.
Coleman misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Coleman takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Coleman shoots in but Brantley avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Lukas Brantley has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of George Coleman.
Coleman misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Brantley closes the distance and clinches.
Coleman tries to break the clinch but Brantley is controlling the position.
Coleman wants to stall.
Coleman wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Brantley breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Coleman is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Brantley.

Brantley feints and then cracks Coleman's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Coleman down.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Brantley fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Brantley throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Coleman.


That has opened up George Coleman's cut even more.
Brantley misses with a wild combination.
Brantley throws a series of punches but Coleman moves out of range.
Coleman takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.

Brantley closes the distance and pushes Coleman back into the cage.

Brantley breaks the clinch.
Brantley throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Lukas Brantley seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Brantley lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.
Coleman shoots in for a double leg but Brantley sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Brantley is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.

Coleman is trying hard to land a takedown here. Brantley sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Coleman tries to clinch but Brantley is having none of it.

Brantley fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Coleman manages to avoid it.

Brantley throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Coleman tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Brantley is in Coleman's guard.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Brantley creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
George Coleman has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Lukas Brantley is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Brantley tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.

And that's the end of the fight!
Lukas Brantley showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Brantley, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
