PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between John Penn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joe Mamuh (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mamuh is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by http://youtu.be/q6FNpV7-cyo. Joe Mamuh will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, John Penn!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Joe Mamuh!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Penn is looking to clinch but Mamuh is avoiding it.
A left lands for Mamuh.
Mamuh fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Penn looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Good leg kick by Mamuh there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Mamuh looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Mamuh.
A solid body kick from Penn.
Mamuh fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Penn has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Mamuh takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Mamuh changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Penn tries to avoid it but Mamuh manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Penn to the ground. Penn escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Mamuh lands with a nice body punch.
Penn throws a body punch but Mamuh moves out of range.

Mamuh moves into the clinch successfully.

Mamuh pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Mamuh lets loose with a powerful body kick. Penn will feel that in the morning.
Penn stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Penn wants it to stay on the feet.
John Penn has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Joe Mamuh.
Mamuh throws a leg kick which misses Penn's front leg but catches the back leg as Penn tries to avoid it.
Joe Mamuh seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Penn is breathing heavily.

Penn misses with a low kick.
Mamuh works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Mamuh swinging wildly here.
Mamuh throws a leg kick which misses Penn's front leg but catches the back leg as Penn tries to avoid it.

Mamuh closes the distance and clinches.

Mamuh pulls guard successfully.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Penn wants to stand and escape but instead Mamuh has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Mamuh tries to free his leg and advance position but Penn is retaining full guard.
Penn might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Mamuh is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Mamuh controlling from the top position.
Mamuh stops Penn from standing up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Mamuh slips nicely into half guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Mamuh is keen to just control but Penn is a slippery customer.
Mamuh content to control rather than advance.
Mamuh scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Mamuh is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Mamuh is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Mamuh is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Penn is staying active underneath Mamuh, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Mamuh takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Mamuh is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Mamuh stops Penn from getting back to his feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Mamuh landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Penn is trying to stand back up but Mamuh is controlling him
Mamuh seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Penn does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Mamuh is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Penn doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Mamuh.
Penn knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Mamuh on the ground.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

Penn is trying to stand up here but Mamuh is controlling him well.

Mamuh looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Mamuh landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.

Mamuh is working for a kimura but Penn is defending it quite comfortably.
Mamuh is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Mamuh thows a huge punch but Penn dodges it nicely.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Mamuh lands a nice short elbow.
Mamuh prevents Penn from standing back up.

Mamuh is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Mamuh seems to be working for a kimura but Penn defends the submission attempt.

Mamuh is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Joe Mamuh dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Mamuh fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Penn fails with an attempt to clinch.
Mamuh scores with a nice body kick.
Joe Mamuh seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Mamuh has managed to clinch.

Mamuh breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Mamuh lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Penn misses with a few strikes there.
Mamuh works over Penn's head and body with a nice combination.
Mamuh misses with a few strikes there.
Penn throws a body punch but Mamuh moves out of range.
Penn tries to clinch but Mamuh is having none of it.
Penn seems to be squinting his left eye. Perhaps he got a poke in that previous exchange. Mamuh shows no mercy and swarms him with a barage of strikes! Penn is backing up but Mamuh catches him with a final right hook that drops him! Penn covers up and the referee steps in to end the fight! Mamuh Jumps to his feet and flashes his guns to the crowd. Oh yeah, baby! How'd you like them apples?!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:59 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Joe Mamuh!
