Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Donny Dane (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Askren (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dane comes to the cage accompanied by Candy Paint. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 5 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Donny Dane!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 6 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, John Askren!
The judges for this bout are Illya Tyunina, Sergei Dronov and Igor Prikhodko.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dane moves away from the strike by Askren.
Askren slips under a jab.
Askren scores with a nice right hand.


It looks like Donny Dane has been cut.
Dane lands a head shot.
Askren fails in his attempt to clinch.
Dane throws a hook but Askren avoids it easily.
Dane swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Dane scores with a shot to the body.

Askren throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Dane was covering up waiting for the punch and Askren finishes the takedown easily into guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Askren wants to get up but he can't break Dane's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Dane will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Dane has control of Askren's left arm, preventing Askren from doing any damage.
Askren would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Askren shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.

Dane shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Askren sprawls well. Askren wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Dane gets slowly back to his feet.
Askren has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Dane finds it's way round the side to connect with Askren's head.

Askren gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Askren loads up on a big right hand but Dane slips the punch.
Dane punishes Askren's body with a nice straight punch.

Dane is squirming around, avoiding Askren's attempts to control the action.

Askren throws some wild stikes that Dane manages to avoid easily.
Dane is looking to improve his position but Askren isn't that keen on the idea.
Dane wants to hold on but Askren pushes him away.
Askren can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Dane is looking to escape.
Dane regains half guard.
Dane holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.
Askren seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Askren is thwarting Dane's attempts to control the position.
Dane wants to get back to full guard.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Askren changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Dane tries to avoid it but Askren manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Dane to the ground. Dane escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Askren takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Dane throws a lazy uppercut
and Askren counters with a straight right hand.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Dane smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Askren throws a shot from downtown. Dane moves away and avoids it.
Askren on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Dane stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Dane wants it to stay on the feet.
Dane is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.

Dane lands a jab to Askren's midsection.
Dane cracks Askren with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

That was a close round but I would say that Donny Dane will probably get the nod.

The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Dane, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
