PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Dwight Lilke (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mao Zedong (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mao Zedong will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Dwight Lilke!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Mao Zedong!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Zedong is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Lilke misses with a body shot.
Zedong avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Lilke takes a kick to the side of the head.
Zedong shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Zedong tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Lilke paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Zedong shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Lilke's guard.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Zedong stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Lilke swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Zedong is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Lilke trying to keep a closed guard but Zedong is proving a slippery customer.
Zedong wants to pass the guard but Lilke is keeping the position.
Lilke is controlling Zedong's posture.

Zedong controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Zedong trying to control the position from guard on top but Lilke is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Zedong fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Lilke avoids it really well and circles away.
Lilke goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Zedong shoots in but no luck this time.
Dwight Lilke has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mao Zedong.
Lilke shoots in but Zedong avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Zedong closes the distance but Lilke moves to the side

and Lilke counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Zedong!
This has been an exciting period of action!
Zedong tries to lock up and control but Lilke gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Zedong is looking to improve his position but Lilke isn't that keen on the idea.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Lilke can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Zedong is looking to escape.

Lilke swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Zedong is now in Lilke's guard. A big mistake from Lilke there, giving up the dominant position!

Zedong drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Lilke manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Zedong has Lilke in his guard.
Lilke might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Zedong has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Lilke is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Zedong.
Zedong gets back to half guard.

Lilke is looking to take a break and control but Zedong is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Zedong manages to get to full guard.

Lilke wants to stand and escape but instead Zedong has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Zedong controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

A close round but Mao Zedong will probably get the nod.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Lilke pushes Zedong off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Zedong closes the distance and clinches up with Lilke, looking for a takedown. Zedong pushes Lilke against the cage but Lilke circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Lilke has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Zedong uses from the top position.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Lilke has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Zedong can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

That was a close second round but I would say that Dwight Lilke will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Zedong in particular looking to stall.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Mao Zedong has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Lilke shoots for a double leg takedown but Zedong sprawls well. He's pushed Lilke's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Zedong dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Lilke. That did some damage!

Zedong shoots in for a takedown but Lilke shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Zedong takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Zedong is looking for a triangle but Lilke pushes his legs off easily.
Lilke slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Mao Zedong comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Zedong has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
