PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Krzysztof Kulak (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Latundan El Banana (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kulak is coming into this fight with a significant injury, which will no doubt have an effect on his cardio. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Krzysztof Kulak!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Latundan El Banana!
The judges for this bout are Ivan Kurochkin, Vladimir Khabensky and Dmitry Maklakov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

El Banana shoots in and bounces Kulak off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Kulak is breathing heavily.
El Banana wants to pass the guard but Kulak is keeping the position.
El Banana loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Kulak can't keep his opponent in guard - El Banana advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
El Banana is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Kulak!

El Banana is landing with some decent strikes but Kulak is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
El Banana tries to control but Kulak wriggling away.

Kulak is bucking up trying to escape but El Banana cracks him with another couple of good strikes.

El Banana has control of Kulak's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Kulak regains control of the situation pretty easily.
El Banana breaks from Kulak's wrist control and lands an elbow.
El Banana sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
El Banana cracks Kulak with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Kulak really wants to buck El Banana off and get back to his feet.

El Banana pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
El Banana lands a big shot there that rocks Kulak but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Kulak is looking to get to half guard.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
El Banana trying to control but he's not successful this time.
El Banana scoring with strikes but Kulak is staying in there.
El Banana has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Kulak's face.

El Banana is landing with some decent strikes but Kulak is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
El Banana has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Kulak's face.

Kulak is in all sorts of trouble here.
Oh Kulak is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Kulak tries to lock up and control but El Banana gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
El Banana can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Kulak is looking to escape.
Kulak seems to have got his legs back now.
El Banana is trying to control here but Kulak has managed to regain half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Latundan El Banana dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


El Banana looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
El Banana misses with a takedown attempt - Kulak sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

El Banana feints and as Kulak raises his hands in defense, El Banana changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Kulak might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
El Banana tries to free his leg and advance position but Kulak is retaining full guard.
Kulak not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
El Banana trying to control but Kulak is working from the bottom.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Latundan El Banana wasn't active enough on the ground.

El Banana darts in and clinches Kulak up against the cage.
Kulak has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. El Banana avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Kulak trying to control the position but instead, El Banana has worked for underhooks and has pushed Kulak into the cage.

El Banana has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Kulak uses from the top position.

El Banana pushes Kulak off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Kulak gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

El Banana seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Kulak does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Kulak wants to sweep here but El Banana controlling him for the moment.

The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Kulak controls El Banana momentarily but El Banana frees himself.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Kulak gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
El Banana has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
El Banana wants to pass the guard but Kulak is keeping the position.
El Banana stands and throws Kulak's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Kulak wants to control but El Banana postures up.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Kulak prevents El Banana from moving into mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Latundan El Banana showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


El Banana stuffs the takedown.

El Banana gets a double leg takedown into Kulak's guard.
El Banana stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Kulak swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Kulak is working an open guard so El Banana takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
No luck for El Banana with that takedown attempt.

El Banana fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Kulak to the ground. El Banana is now in Kulak's guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
El Banana makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Kulak trying to keep a closed guard but El Banana is proving a slippery customer.
El Banana trying to control the position from guard on top but Kulak is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
El Banana is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Kulak is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

El Banana thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
El Banana throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Kulak works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Kulak wants to sweep here but El Banana controlling him for the moment.
El Banana stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Kulak swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Kulak not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
El Banana forces his way into half guard.
Kulak regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from El Banana.
El Banana with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
El Banana trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
El Banana looking to sit in guard and control but Kulak gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if El Banana can do anything to dispel that myth.
El Banana is pulling down on Kulak's head. It's preventing any offense from Kulak, at least for the moment.

El Banana is trying to control the position but Kulak postures up.
Kulak is looking to work some ground and pound but El Banana has wrist control.
Kulak wants to control from the top but El Banana keeps moving.
El Banana looking to hit a scissor sweep but Kulak is one step ahead there.
El Banana is looking to stand up but Kulak isn't so interested in that idea.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

El Banana scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Kulak wants to improve his position but El Banana is controlling well.
Krzysztof Kulak has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

El Banana is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Kulak works his way to full guard. Good work.

Kulak escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. El Banana gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Kulak throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Latundan El Banana is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
El Banana seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

And that's the end of the fight!
Latundan El Banana comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well El Banana has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
