PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jake Blues (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matt Hatfield (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Blues comes to the cage accompanied by Soul Man. Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jake Blues!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Matt Hatfield!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Blues shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
A left lands for Hatfield.


It looks like Jake Blues has been cut.
Hatfield swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Blues looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Hatfield is trying to control but can't.

Hatfield looking for submissions off his back.
Blues throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Blues missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.

Blues is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Hatfield doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Blues.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Blues lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Hatfield really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Blues. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hatfield is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Blues scores with a couple of nice shots.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Hatfield can do anything to dispel that myth.
Blues performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Blues trying to control the action but Hatfield is working from the bottom.
Blues is looking to advance position but Hatfield won't allow it.
Blues trying to control from half guard but Hatfield is working away.
Blues throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Blues is looking to take a break and control but Hatfield is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Hatfield wants to control but Blues is keeping busy.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Blues is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Hatfield has managed to free his arm - good work.
Hatfield trying to control here but he's found himself mounted! Oh no!
Blues lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.


It looks like Matt Hatfield has been cut.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Blues cracks Hatfield with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.


That has opened up Matt Hatfield's cut even more.
Blues will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Blues postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Hatfield looks a forlorn figure.


The cut above Matt Hatfield's eye is starting to cause him problems now.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Matt Hatfield's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Jake Blues!
Our winner, Jake Blues, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
