The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sato lands a slapping body shot.
That kick from Sato tenderised Silva's leg. Silva is trying to keep his angry face on.
A left and a right from Sato both land. Nice combination.
Sato tries to close the distance and clinch up but Silva swats him away and circles back towards the center.
A cross from Sato lands.
Silva takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?

Jake Sato seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Silva shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Sato pinned against the cage. Sato gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Sato throws a nice looking combination but Silva bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Sato misses with a series of wild punches.
Sato lands with a kick to the temple. Silva shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"

Silva drops his hands momentarily and Sato takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.

Silva shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Sato defends it nicely.
Jake Sato has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rickson Silva.
Silva on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Sato tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Silva manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Silva blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Silva is trying desperately to land a takedown but Sato is having absolutely none of it. This is turning into a bit of a nightmare for Silva.

and Silva counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Sato!

Sato keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Sato has managed to clinch.
Sato unloads a knee to the mid-section.

Sato has hold of one of Silva's legs. Silva is fighting the takedown attempt but Sato gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

Sato tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Sato has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Sato wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Silva, who protects the arm well.

Sato goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Silva has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Sato but great work by Silva.

Sato sneaks back into half guard.
Sato tries to roll over but Silva keeps him under control.

Silva looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Sato makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Sato.

Silva has his feet on Sato's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.

and Silva counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Sato's guard now.

Sato has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Silva can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Silva sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Sato's guard.
Silva tries to pass the half guard into mount. Sato knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
