PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between John Mott (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Batista de Guia (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). de Guia has chosen "Quilombo" by Soulfly as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 6 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, John Mott!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 8 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Batista de Guia!
The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Felipe Paraventi and Seu Braga.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
de Guia tries to clinch but Mott moves out of range.
de Guia throws a lazy body kick

so Mott counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
de Guia wants to stand up but Mott is controlling him.
de Guia wants to sweep but no luck.
Mott throws a big elbow that misses.
de Guia keeping moving, preventing Mott from controlling successfully.
de Guia controls Mott momentarily but Mott frees himself.
de Guia manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

That's one minute gone in the round.
de Guia wants to get back to his feet but Mott is holding on tight.
Mott tries to hold on but de Guia postures up.

de Guia get's back to his feet.
de Guia tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Mott fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and de Guia has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
de Guia scores to the head and body with a nice combination!

Mott throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. de Guia was covering up waiting for the punch and Mott finishes the takedown easily into guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Mott prevents de Guia from getting back to his feet.
Mott wants to control from the top but de Guia keeps moving.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mott stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. de Guia swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
de Guia is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

de Guia wants to control but Mott passes easily into half guard.
de Guia won't allow Mott to pass to mount.
de Guia is staying active underneath Mott, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

de Guia tries to buck Mott off but Mott is having none of it.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Mott tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but de Guia swivels and escapes.

de Guia shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Mott as he jumps to the side.

The referee is keeping an eye on de Guia - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.

de Guia lands a left hand that snaps the head of Mott backwards.
de Guia throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Mott blocks it with crossed arms.
Mott is looking to take this one to the mat.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for John Mott. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Mott has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. de Guia is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Mott wants a takedown but no success here.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

de Guia content to slow the pace in the clinch.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Mott changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. de Guia looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

de Guia is trying to stand up here but Mott is controlling him well.

de Guia has hold of Mott's hands but Mott slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Mott seems to be working for a kimura but de Guia defends the submission attempt.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Mott keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Batista de Guia will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Mott accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Mott is fighting to break de Guia's control of his arms but de Guia is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
de Guia wants to sweep here but Mott controlling him for the moment.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Batista de Guia wasn't active enough on the ground.

de Guia shoots in and drives through. Mott sprawls well.

John Mott is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

de Guia closes the distance and clinches.
de Guia is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Mott is keeping busy.

John Mott overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to John Mott.
I think Mott has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

John Mott decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
