PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Dois Pra Um (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ryoga Hibiki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hibiki has chosen Blue Orchid as his entrance music. Ryoga Hibiki told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Dois Pra Um!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ryoga Hibiki!
The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Thiago Cunha and Daniel Cesar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Some wild striking there from Hibiki.
Hibiki fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Pra Um.

Pra Um moves into range and clinches up with Hibiki.
Hibiki letting Pra Um take a breather here.
An uppercut to the body lands inside from Pra Um.

Hibiki has picked Pra Um up - he's going for a ride! Hibiki dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Pra Um is staying active underneath Hibiki, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Pra Um moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Hibiki decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Dois Pra Um seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Pra Um clinches.
Hibiki wants a takedown.
Pra Um throws a punch but it's blocked by Hibiki.
Hibiki is working for takedown but Pra Um is calmly controlling the position for now.
Dois Pra Um has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ryoga Hibiki.

Pra Um drags the fight down to the ground.
Hibiki trying to control but Pra Um is working from the bottom.

Hibiki wants to stand and escape but instead Pra Um has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Hibiki really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Pra Um. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Pra Um throws a big elbow that misses.
Pra Um with a flurry of punches that miss.
Pra Um has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Hibiki is trying to control the position but Pra Um postures up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Pra Um with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Pra Um throws a big right hand that misses.
Pra Um throwing strikes but missing.
Hibiki avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Pra Um is in close to Hibiki's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Pra Um content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.

Pra Um drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Pra Um jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Hibiki pulls Pra Um in close to prevent any damage.

Pra Um throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Hibiki works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Hammerfist, elbow! yells Pra Um's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Pra Um makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Hibiki is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Hibiki is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Pra Um is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Pra Um lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Hibiki bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Pra Um's guard.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dois Pra Um dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Hibiki shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Pra Um defends it nicely.
Pra Um looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Pra Um fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Pra Um slaps away a takedown attempt from Hibiki, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Hibiki lands with a short punch from the clinch.
Pra Um wants a takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dois Pra Um. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Hibiki jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Pra Um walks away with a smile on his face. Hibiki gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

A nice combination there by Pra Um.
Pra Um fails with the takedown.
Pra Um stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Pra Um wants it to stay on the feet.
Hibiki tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Pra Um paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Dois Pra Um is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Pra Um rushes Hibiki and presses him up against the cage.
Pra Um tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Hibiki smiles and moves away.
Hibiki doesn't manage to clinch there - Pra Um circles away.

Hibiki changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Pra Um looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Pra Um is not in a great position here, taking some shots.

Hibiki blocks the strikes from Pra Um.

Hibiki stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Pra Um drives through with a takedown into guard.

Pra Um is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Hibiki is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Hibiki has escaped and now he's on top!

Hibiki wants to stand but Pra Um has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Pra Um throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Hibiki tries to free his leg and advance position but Pra Um is retaining full guard.

Hibiki stands up from Pra Um's guard - Hibiki perhaps looking for a knockout.
Pra Um shoots in but Hibiki avoids the takedown attempt easily.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Horrible takedown by Hibiki or perhaps it was just good defense by Pra Um which made him look bad.

Pra Um gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Pra Um is trying to drag Hibiki to the mat but Hibiki just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Pra Um is trying to trip Hibiki. He has hold of a leg but Hibiki is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Pra Um persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Hibiki manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

A close second round but Ryoga Hibiki will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!



Pra Um decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Pra Um winds up and cracks Hibiki with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Pra Um looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Hibiki with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Pra Um wants to take a breather but Hibiki is having none of it.
Pra Um throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Pra Um is trying to control. Hibiki wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Hibiki is looking to improve his position.
Hibiki avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Pra Um.
Pra Um thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Hibiki's head.
Hibiki tries to get to full guard but Pra Um has control of the leg.

Pra Um sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Hibiki defending well though.

Pra Um seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Pra Um drops an elbow to the side of Hibiki's head.
Pra Um landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.


Hibiki is rocked!
Pra Um working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Hibiki is still in real trouble! Can Pra Um finish him?
Hibiki has hold of Pra Um's hands but Pra Um slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Pra Um is sitting in half guard. He's postured up and lands a nice elbow. Oh, Hibiki is hurt! He's hurt bad - Pra Um fires away with more strikes and the referee jumps in to save Hibiki from any more punishment! Congratulations to Pra Um! Great finish!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:48 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Dois Pra Um!
