PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Dominik Kolanko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Selma Semlan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dominik Kolanko had real problems making weight for this fight. After initially coming in at 187.0lbs, he had two hours to make the official fight weight. He made it but it will have taken a lot out of him to cut those extra few pounds. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Dominik Kolanko!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Selma Semlan!
The judges for this bout are Roosa Järviläinen, Matti Vanhoillinen and Marco Blurström.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Semlan tries to clinch there but Kolanko circles away.
Kolanko swats away the attempt to clinch by Semlan.
Kolanko keeps the fight on the outside.
Semlan misses with a kick to the body.
Semlan tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Kolanko manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Semlan doesn't manage to clinch there - Kolanko circles away.
Semlan fails in his attempt to clinch.

Semlan lands a big head kick that sends Kolanko tumbling to the mat! Semlan takes a step backwards and waves Kolanko back to his feet - he wants the finish!


It looks like Dominik Kolanko has been cut.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Kolanko looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Semlan is fending him off so far but Kolanko persists. Nope, Semlan circles away and we're back to standing.
Semlan tries to clinch

and Kolanko counters with a nice double leg into side control. Semlan won't be happy with that.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
You can see the frustration on Semlan's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Semlan is trying to get back to half guard.

Kolanko is staying tight to Semlan's torso, preventing him from escaping.
Kolanko misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Kolanko is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Semlan is trying to control Kolanko's posture but Kolanko avoids it.

Semlan tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Semlan takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Semlan can do anything to dispel that myth.
Kolanko is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Semlan will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Kolanko creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Semlan sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Semlan is looking for a sweep.
Kolanko just content to control the position.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Kolanko seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Semlan for as long as he can get away with.

The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
Kolanko has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Semlan looks for the body kick but Kolanko saw that one coming.
Kolanko changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Semlan tries to avoid it but Kolanko manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Semlan to the ground. Semlan escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Kolanko takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Kolanko is breathing heavily.

Kolanko is rocked!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Semlan staying out of range there.
Oh Kolanko is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Semlan scores with a kick to the body.
Semlan tries to close the distance and clinch but Kolanko swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Selma Semlan seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Semlan tries to clinch there but Kolanko circles away.
Semlan lets loose with a powerful body kick. Kolanko will feel that in the morning.
Kolanko seems to have got his legs back now.
The fight stays on the outside here - Semlan looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Look low, kick high! Semlan uses the oldest trick in the book to send Kolanko tumbling to the canvas, in a truly brutal knockout! Semlan is absolutely delighted - when Kolanko wakes up, I doubt he'll be quite so happy!
