PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bryan Bernie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Fail Sonnen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys are coming into the fight with injuries so let's see if that has a bearing on the fight. I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 10 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Fail Sonnen!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Dillan Fox and Steve Smith.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sonnen throws a shot from downtown. Bernie moves away and avoids it.
Bernie staying out of range there.
Bernie lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Bernie.
Bernie blocks a head kick by Sonnen.
Bernie throws a big shot that misses.
Sonnen swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Sonnen looks gassed!
A looping hook to the body misses from Sonnen. Bernie does a little dance to reset his feet.
Bernie uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Sonnen.
Sonnen chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Bernie can pounce on him.
A nice inside leg kick there by Bernie. That's going to slow Sonnen down.

Bernie looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Bernie wants to lay and pray for a moment but Sonnen keeps working.

Bernie perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Bernie has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
BOOM! Bernie connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Bernie lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Bernie breaks from Sonnen's wrist control and lands an elbow.

Bernie misses with some ground and pound and Sonnen recovers position to half guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Bernie thows a huge punch but Sonnen dodges it nicely.
Bernie is pressing down on Sonnen's thigh, looking to free his foot. Sonnen is holding on for now.
Bernie is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Sonnen!
Bernie lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.

Bernie is landing with some decent strikes but Sonnen is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Bernie moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Sonnen has worked his arm free - good work by Sonnen!

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Sonnen wants to control but Bernie postures up.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Sonnen doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Bernie counters by moving into the clinch.

Bernie jumps guard and drags Sonnen to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Bernie wants to sweep here but Sonnen controlling him for the moment.

Bernie is looking to sinch up a triangle. Sonnen throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Bernie's body to avoid the submission. Bernie has instead reached around Sonnen's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Bernie arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.
