PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Bruce Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Bombadil (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Bruce Gracie!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, John Bombadil!
The judges for this bout are William Peck, Yves DeLean and Dillan Fox.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A head kick misses from Gracie.
Bombadil throws a half hearted mid kick.

Bombadil closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Bombadil lands in his opponent's guard.
Bombadil trying to control the position from guard on top but Gracie is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Gracie working for a triangle but Bombadil defends it easily.
Gracie trying to keep a closed guard but Bombadil is proving a slippery customer.

Gracie has his foot on Bombadil's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Bombadil works his way back into a safe position though.

Bombadil avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Gracie looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Gracie manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Bombadil manages to get himself to full guard.
Gracie is looking to work some ground and pound but Bombadil has wrist control.

Bombadil pushes Gracie off and scrambles back to his feet.
Gracie shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Bombadil as he avoids it easily.

Bombadil shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Gracie napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Gracie gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Bombadil is figuring out what he wants to do next.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
It looks like Bombadil might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Bombadil has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Gracie might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Gracie is in a horrible position here. Bombadil smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

Bombadil avoids the attempt from Gracie to control.
Gracie is trying desperately to improve position.
Gracie sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
Bombadil lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Gracie is not content to let Bombadil control the position.
Bombadil content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Bombadil not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Gracie makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Gracie.
Bombadil wants to control from the top but Gracie keeps moving.
Bombadil throws a big elbow that misses.

Gracie is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Gracie keeping moving, preventing Bombadil from controlling successfully.
Bombadil is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Gracie has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Bombadil can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Bombadil is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but John Bombadil will probably get the nod.

Gracie fails with a takedown attempt.

Gracie is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Gracie avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Bombadil.
John Bombadil has got the better of the ground game so far.
Bombadil seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Bombadil tries to stand and escape but Gracie is controlling the position.
Bombadil is taking a breather. Gracie says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by John Bombadil.
A jab lands there for Gracie.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Bombadil.
Bombadil is breathing heavily.
Bombadil connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Gracie some visible discomfort.
Gracie regains half guard.
Gracie wants to get back to full guard.
Gracie makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Gracie.

Gracie is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Gracie tries to strike from the bottom.
Bombadil scoring with some ground and pound.
Bombadil must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Gracie has a closed guard, preventing Bombadil from standing up.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Gracie wants to sweep but no luck.
