PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Roddy Piper (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kung Chen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Piper comes to the cage accompanied by Real Men Wear Skirts. Kung Chen has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 22 - 6 - 1, fighting out of New York, Roddy Piper!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Kung Chen!
The judges for this bout are , Jack Bonds and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Piper throws a head kick but Chen moves out of range.
Piper dives in and grabs Chen's left leg, looking for a takedown. Chen pushes down on Piper's head and hops out.
Chen will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Piper keeps the fight on the outside.
Chen displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Piper throws out the jab.

Chen drives through and clinches with Piper against the cage.
Chen goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Chen lands an elbow inside.

Piper has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Chen clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
Chen has his hands over his head blocking the strikes from Piper.
Piper throwing damaging strikes from the back! Chen could be in trouble here!
Piper not allowing Chen to control his hands.
Chen is in a world of trouble here. He's outmatched on the ground here and he'd better get Piper off his back sharpish unless he wants to be submitted.
Chen rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.
Piper not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Chen trying to hold on to Piper's head to control him but Piper postures up.
Chen might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Piper kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Chen wants to improve his position but Piper is controlling well.
Chen is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Chen can do anything to dispel that myth.
Piper passes to side control.
Piper working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.

Piper swings around for an armbar but Chen sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Piper's guard.
Chen seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Chen postures up.
Chen really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Piper. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Piper is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Chen is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Chen works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Chen seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Piper does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Chen prevents Piper from improving his position.

Piper is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Chen pulls his head out easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Piper moves into full guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Chen sitting in guard, not really doing much.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Piper is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Chen's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Chen won't allow Piper to sweep him here.

Kung Chen has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Piper fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Piper checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Piper throws a leg kick but Chen sees it coming and checks it nicely.
Piper with a nice cross.
Chen throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Chen throws a body kick that misses.
Piper shoots in but Chen avoids the takedown attempt easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Roddy Piper. That's going to take a lot out of him.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Chen walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Piper checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
Piper moves forwards but Chen connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Chen tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Piper was well out of range. Poor timing from Chen.
Kung Chen seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Chen swings away with a leg kick that misses.
Piper tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Chen manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Chen misses with a leg kick.
Chen thuds his shin into the meat of Piper's side.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Piper misses with a straight right.
Chen delivers a nice body kick.
Piper avoids the head kick by Chen.
A looping hook to the body misses from Chen. Piper does a little dance to reset his feet.
Chen throws a right hand that Piper ducks under and follows up with a left that Piper also avoids with ease.
Chen fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
Piper throws out a powerful jab.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Piper checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Chen takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Chen is looking to chop away at Piper's legs.
Piper checks the leg kick nicely there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Kung Chen will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Piper scores with the left hand. Chen knows he should have avoided that one.
A clash of legs there as Piper blocks the low kick.
Chen throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
Chen bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Chen tries to clinch up but Piper circles away and keeps his distance.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Piper checks a leg kick nicely.
Chen throws the kick towards the body but Piper avoids it.
Chen misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Piper.
Piper tries to clinch but Chen is having none of it.
Piper turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Piper fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Chen has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.

Piper bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Chen managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Piper.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Piper wants to control but Chen is keeping him busy.
Piper landing with strikes to the head and body from side control.
Chen is looking for a sweep.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Piper scores with punches from side control.
Piper misses with the ground and pound.
Piper scores with a couple of short elbows.
Piper cracks Chen with an elbow. That is naaassty.
Chen is trying to improve his position.
Chen wants to control but Piper postures up.

Piper is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Chen knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Chen keeps Piper under control for a moment.

Piper looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Piper connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Chen some visible discomfort.
Piper lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
The strikes coming from Piper are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
Piper in side control, throwing shots but Chen defends.
Piper scoring with punches and elbows.


Chen is rocked!

Piper is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Chen looks calm but he's in trouble here. Piper gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Chen is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Piper lets go of the hold and Chen can pop his arm back in it's socket.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Roddy Piper!
A very excited looking Roddy Piper made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
