The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mao throws a big shot that misses.
Mao shoots in for a double leg but Bellec sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Mao shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Bellec makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
Mao takes a kick to the side of the head.
Mao fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Bellec avoids it really well and circles away.
Bruce Bellec has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Cong Mao.
Bellec fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Mao.

Mao tries to clinch there but Bellec circles away.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Bellec sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

Mao throws a strike but Bellec rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Mao can't keep his opponent in guard - Bellec advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Bellec will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Mao is looking for a sweep. Bellec is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Bellec wants to pass the guard but Mao is defending well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Mao closes the distance and clinches up with Bellec, looking for a takedown. Mao pushes Bellec against the cage but Bellec circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Mao tries to clinch up.
Mao shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Bellec pinned against the cage. Bellec gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
