PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Willy Nilly (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Adrian Rostecki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rostecki has chosen Funky Polak - Daj mi jeden Powod as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Willy Nilly!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Adrian Rostecki!
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Steve Smith and William Peck.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rostecki shoots for a takedown but Nilly saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Nilly dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Rostecki. That did some damage!
Rostecki is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Nilly with a body punch. A glancing blow.
Rostecki moves out of range of the strikes.
Nilly tries to clinch but Rostecki moves out of range.
Nilly thuds a left hand into Rostecki's body.
Rostecki fails with a takedown attempt.

Rostecki clinches up with Nilly and pushes him back against the cage.
Nice elbow from Nilly.


It looks like Adrian Rostecki has been cut.
Nilly lands a knee to the body.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Rostecki takes a knee to the side of the body.
Rostecki looks gassed!
Nilly missing with knees to the body.
Rostecki fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Willy Nilly has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Adrian Rostecki.
Nilly lands a damaging elbow.

Nilly throws an elbow but it's blocked.
Nilly using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Rostecki has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Good anti-grappling being displayed by Nilly as Rostecki tries to tie him up.

Rostecki goes for a takedown attempt but Nilly pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

and Rostecki counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Rostecki.
Nilly lands a nice elbow from the clinch.
Rostecki avoiding damage as Nilly throws knees to the body.
Rostecki blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Rostecki blocks an elbow strike.

Rostecki gets control of Nilly's arms and successfully pulls guard. Rostecki will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

Rostecki not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Nilly has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Nilly trying to control but Rostecki is working from the bottom.
Nilly not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Willy Nilly has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Nilly throws a looping overhand right but Rostecki ducks down to avoid it.

Nilly clinches with his opponent.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Rostecki blocks an elbow strike.
Nilly tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.

Rostecki is trying to pull guard but Nilly has him pressed against the cage.
Nilly has Rostecki pressed against the cage, preventing Rostecki from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Rostecki has had enough of the clinch but Nilly keeps him there for the moment.
Nilly is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Rostecki is defending well for now.

Rostecki turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Rostecki manages to end up in side control.
Nilly is looking to regain half guard here but Rostecki keeps moving and retains side control.

Nilly wants to control but Rostecki passes into side.

Rostecki thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Rostecki is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Nilly is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Nilly looking for a sweep but Rostecki has passed into full mount! Oh no!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


A looping hook to the body misses from Rostecki. Nilly does a little dance to reset his feet.
A combination from Rostecki does no damage.
Nilly closes the distance but Rostecki moves to the side
and Rostecki counters with a low kick, right behind Nilly 's knee.

Rostecki has taken the fight to the clinch.
Rostecki fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Rostecki breaks from the clinch.
Nilly connects with an inside leg kick.

Nilly gets caught flat footed, as Rostecki shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Rostecki sitting in guard, not really doing much.

Nilly is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Rostecki is aware though and is defending well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Nilly controls Rostecki momentarily but Rostecki frees himself.
Nilly is looking to sweep but instead, Rostecki has passed into half guard.
Nilly trying to control but Rostecki postures up.

Rostecki is working for a submission of some sort.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Rostecki takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Nilly works his way to full guard. Good work.
Nilly tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Nilly is looking to sweep but instead, Rostecki has passed into half guard.
Nilly tries to get to full guard but Rostecki has control of the leg.

Rostecki looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Nilly tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
Nilly is trying to get back to full guard.

Nilly is defending against the submission attempts here by Rostecki.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Rostecki in particular looking to stall.
Nilly is looking to improve his position.
Nilly wants to sweep but Rostecki has passed to side control!
Rostecki is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Nilly's shoulder. That is not cool.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Nilly is trying to get back to half guard.
Rostecki controls the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Adrian Rostecki showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Nilly tries to clinch but fails miserably

and Rostecki counters with a nice double leg into side control. Nilly won't be happy with that.
Nilly tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Rostecki presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!
Rostecki prevents Nilly from getting the reversal.

Rostecki's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

Adrian Rostecki has got the better of the ground game so far.
Rostecki looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.

Rostecki is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Nilly can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Nilly is trying desperately to improve position.

Rostecki landing strikes from the mount and Nilly is in trouble!
Nilly wants to try and get back to his feet.
Nilly knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Rostecki on the ground.

Rostecki with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.

Nilly defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Rostecki.

Adrian Rostecki comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Rostecki has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
