PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between James Anderson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kurt Angle (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Anderson comes into the arena with Massive Attack - Teardrop blaring out of the sound system. Angle has chosen Medal as his entrance music. James Anderson has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, James Anderson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Kurt Angle!
The judges for this bout are , Frank Antenori and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Anderson moves in looking to clinch but Angle pushes him off.

Anderson throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Angle tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Anderson is in Angle's guard.

Angle is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Anderson is aware though and is defending well.
Angle avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Anderson trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Angle manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!
Anderson keeping moving, preventing Angle from controlling successfully.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Angle controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
It looks like Angle might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Kurt Angle was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Anderson has his takedown stuffed

and Angle counters with a nice double leg into side control. Anderson won't be happy with that.

Anderson really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Angle decides to stand up, so the ref orders Anderson to his feet.

Anderson looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Angle swats away the attempt to clinch by Anderson.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Anderson dives in and grabs Angle's left leg, looking for a takedown. Angle pushes down on Anderson's head and hops out.
Anderson shoots for a takedown but Angle saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Angle tries to close the distance and clinch up but Anderson swats him away and circles back towards the center.

and Angle counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Angle tries to free his leg and advance position but Anderson is retaining full guard.
Angle forces his way into half guard.
Angle perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Anderson moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Angle wants to control from the top but Anderson keeps moving.

Anderson has his foot on Angle's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Angle works his way back into a safe position though.
Angle slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Angle throws a big elbow that misses.
Angle controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Kurt Angle has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Anderson lands with a right hand.
Angle throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Anderson lands with a kick to the temple. Angle shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"

Angle clinches up with Anderson and pushes him back against the cage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Anderson's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.



Anderson tries to sprawl but Angle drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Angle is trying to control. Anderson wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Angle wants to pass to mount but Anderson is defending the position.

Angle is trying to work for a kimura but Anderson is defending well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Angle working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Anderson wants to improve his position but Angle is controlling well.

We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Anderson makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Anderson.

Angle is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Kurt Angle was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Angle misses with a kick to the body.
Angle shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Anderson as he avoids it easily.

No luck with that takedown attempt from Anderson.
Angle keeps the fight on the outside.
Angle misses with a straight right.
James Anderson is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Anderson shoots in but no luck this time.
Anderson slips a jab and a cross from Angle.

Anderson closes the distance and pushes Angle back into the cage.
Anderson drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Anderson jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Angle walks away with a smile on his face. Anderson gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Anderson tries to close the distance and clinch but Angle swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Angle takes a swing at Anderson's ribcage but misses.
Angle throws a right and a left that both miss.
Anderson throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

and Angle counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kurt Angle showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Angle is trying hard to land a takedown here. Anderson sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Anderson uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Angle.
James Anderson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Anderson fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Angle avoids it really well and circles away.

and Angle counters with a series of strikes. Anderson will be more careful next time no doubt.
Angle paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Anderson throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Angle's waist but Angle gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Anderson off to one side.

Anderson throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Angle fails to land with a series of punches.

Angle is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Anderson.
Angle stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Angle wants it to stay on the feet.
Angle throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
Anderson fails with an attempt to clinch.
Angle misses with a body kick.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Angle.
Anderson tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Angle has knee on belly and moves into mount.
Angle controlling the position easily from mount.

Angle trying to control but Anderson is having none of it.

Angle takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Kurt Angle is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Kurt Angle comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Angle winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

A very excited looking Kurt Angle rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
