Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Julio Gutierrez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jorge Rivera!
The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Matheus Silva and Thiago Cunha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Rivera can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Gutierrez is looking to escape.
Rivera has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Gutierrez's face.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rivera looking to control but Gutierrez is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

Rivera goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Gutierrez is on top in guard.

Gutierrez drops back, looking for a kneebar! Rivera looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Rivera looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Rivera!

Gutierrez regains half guard there - taking advantage of Rivera's attempt to lay and pray for a moment.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rivera thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Still in half guard, Rivera seems content to control.

Rivera is looking for a kimura but Gutierrez is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Rivera to get the leverage.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Rivera misses with a head shot. Gutierrez uses the momentum to regain guard.
Rivera wants to pass the guard but Gutierrez is keeping the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jorge Rivera dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Gutierrez misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Rivera has Gutierrez pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Rivera pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Gutierrez tumbling to the mat - Rivera dives into Gutierrez's guard.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Jorge Rivera wasn't active enough on the ground.

Rivera shoots in and bounces Gutierrez off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Rivera wants to control from the top but Gutierrez keeps moving.

Rivera escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Gutierrez gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Gutierrez tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Gutierrez has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
You can see the frustration on Rivera's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Gutierrez thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Gutierrez is trying to get an arm triangle but Rivera is defending well.
Rivera sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.

Gutierrez is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Rivera has managed to free his arm - good work.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Gutierrez is pressing down on Rivera's thigh, looking to free his foot. Rivera is holding on for now.

Jorge Rivera showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Rivera stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Gutierrez swivels though and keeps the full guard.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Julio Gutierrez has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Rivera stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Rivera wants it to stay on the feet.
Gutierrez shoots in but no luck this time.
Gutierrez tries for a takedown but Rivera sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Rivera manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Gutierrez manages to get himself to full guard.

Jorge Rivera comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Rivera has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
