PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Rex Junior (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sam Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The judges for this bout are James Glass, Colin Fotheringham and Paul Tew.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith throws a nice outside leg kick.
Junior tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Smith manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Smith stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Smith wants it to stay on the feet.
Junior slips a straight right by Smith.
Junior tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Smith paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Smith fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Junior will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Smith moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Junior wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Smith got a little sloppy there for a moment and Junior has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Smith has managed to get both his arms back between Junior's legs - danger averted.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Sam Smith showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Smith closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Smith fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Junior manages to avoid it.
The fight stays on the outside here - Junior looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

A decent looking body kick lands there for Smith.

Smith fails to land the takedown.
Smith throws an overhand right that lands on Junior's shoulder, as Junior tries to avoid the shot.
Rex Junior is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Smith rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Junior moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Smith tries to clinch but Junior is having none of it.
Junior lands with a shot to the body.
Junior finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.

Smith drops his hands momentarily and Junior takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Junior lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Smith backs up against the cage.

Junior fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Smith looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.

Junior tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Smith paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Junior tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Smith smiles and moves away.

Smith postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Sam Smith has got the better of the ground game so far.
Smith wants to pass the guard but Junior is keeping the position.
Smith passes into half guard.
Sam Smith is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Smith is working for a kimura but Junior is defending it quite comfortably.
Rex Junior has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Smith throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

I would just about give that final round to Sam Smith.
Well Smith has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
