PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between John White (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Johnny Storm (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, John White!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Johnny Storm!
The judges for this bout are Ren Mimura, Yukihiro Yamamoto and Yuuki Gou.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Storm scores with a nice strike.

Storm tries to keep at a distance but White has taken the fight into the clinch.
White misses with a punch to the body.
Storm throws a punch but it's blocked by White.

White turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and White manages to end up in side control.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
White happy to just control the position for now.

White decides to stand up, so the ref orders Storm to his feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.

White shoots in and gets a takedown into Storm's guard.

White stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Storm avoids a kick to the body.
White wants to clinch up but Storm keeps it at a distance.
Storm misses with a jab, cross combination.
White fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
White wants to clinch up but Storm keeps it at a distance.
Storm tests White's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Johnny Storm seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Storm throws a head kick that misses.

White closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

This has been an exciting period of action!

White stands up out of the half guard.
White tries to clinch up but Storm circles away and keeps his distance.

White controlling the position from side mount.

It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
White's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

John White has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

Storm gets caught napping as White dives in and scores a takedown. Storm manages to retain guard.
White is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Storm is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

The ref stands the fighters back up because John White just wasn't active enough.

White displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Storm throws out the jab.
Johnny Storm is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

White shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Storm napping and manages to drive through into side control!

White takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.

White moves into range and clinches up with Storm.
Storm misses with a short punch on the inside.
Storm softening up his opponent with strikes, against the cage.
White is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Storm pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Storm tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Storm misses with an elbow strike.
Storm is trying to break the clinch but White is controlling him.
Storm working aggressively here.

White prevents Storm from breaking the clinch.
Storm tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.

White's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
White jumps guard but Storm turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

Storm's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
White throws a low kick, looking for Storm's leg but Storm calmly moves out of range.
White uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Storm.
White fails in his attempt to clinch.
White has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Storm finds it's way round the side to connect with White's head.

White fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Storm to the ground. White is now in Storm's guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
White controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

We're going to have a standup here because John White wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Storm is on the wrong end of a nice combination from White.
White tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Storm swivels and escapes.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for John White. That's going to take a lot out of him.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as White checks a leg kick.

White clinches up against the cage.
White keeps control of Storm as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Storm is trying to push White away but White has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
White misses with a knee strike.
Storm has had enough of the clinch but White keeps him there for the moment.

White is trying to pull guard but Storm has him pressed against the cage.

White breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
White looks to land a combination but Storm avoids it well.
White shoots for a double leg takedown but Storm sprawls well. He's pushed White's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
White misses with a jab, cross combination.
White keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Storm.
Storm tries to bum rush White with a series of wild strikes but White uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Storm throws an overhand right that lands on White's shoulder, as White tries to avoid the shot.
Storm swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Storm pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Storm wants to clinch up but White keeps it at a distance.
Storm circles away from the clinch attempt.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
The fight stays on the outside here - White looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from White is defended easily by Storm.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that John White will probably get the nod.

Storm throws a hook to the side of White's head but White sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
White shoots in and drives through. Storm sprawls well.
Storm looks to score with a jab to the body but White is just out of range.
John White is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Storm fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
White drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Storm darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
White shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
White uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Storm.
Johnny Storm seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Storm throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Storm tries to land a leg kick but White saw it coming and moves away.

Storm waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract White.
White staying out of range there.
White walks into a straight right hand from Storm.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

White clinches with his opponent.
Storm is trying to push White away but White has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
White jumps guard but Storm turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

White avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Storm swings away with a body shot that misses

and White counters with a takedown into side control.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

White decides to stand up, so the ref orders Storm to his feet.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

and White decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Storm's guard.
Johnny Storm has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
John White is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
White controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

And that's the end of the fight!
John White showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for White, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
