PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mitch Sorrow (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Paul Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sorrow comes into the arena with Survivor - Burning Heart blaring out of the sound system. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Mitch Sorrow!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Paul Smith!
The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, Bruno Hogan and Skip Squint.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Smith closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Sorrow quickly recovers to half guard.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Sorrow is controlling Smith's trapped leg to prevent Smith from advancing to side control.
Smith throwing shots but Sorrow is blocking nicely.

Sorrow manages to escape and get back to his feet!

Sorrow shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Smith manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Smith is pulling down on Sorrow's head to control his posture.

Smith had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Sorrow defends it easily.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Smith is working an open guard so Sorrow takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Smith tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Sorrow paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Sorrow could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Sorrow looks for a takedown but Smith sprawls well.

Sorrow shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Sorrow was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Smith wants to control but Sorrow is having none of it.

Sorrow wants to control the pace but Smith is squirming around nicely.
Sorrow scores with a couple of good head shots there.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Mitch Sorrow.

Sorrow has picked Smith up - he's going for a ride! Sorrow dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Smith is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Sorrow is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Sorrow has Smith pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Smith manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The referee is keeping an eye on Smith - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.

Sorrow shoots in for a takedown but Smith shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Smith closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Smith lands a left hand that snaps the head of Sorrow backwards.
Sorrow is trying to drag Smith to the mat but Smith just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Smith with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head.
Sorrow tries to score a body lock takedown but Smith shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Smith unloads a knee to the mid-section. Sorrow lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh.
Sorrow is looking to break free of the clinch but Smith has double underhooks.
Smith drops down looking for an ankle pick but Sorrow pulls his leg out and moves away.

Sorrow shoots in for a double leg but Smith sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Sorrow fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Smith avoids it really well and circles away.
Mitch Sorrow is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Smith closes the distance and pushes Sorrow back into the cage.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

I would just about give that final round to Paul Smith.
