Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between John Simons (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and BJ Penn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Simons!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, BJ Penn!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Gwen Towbar and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Simons swats away the attempt to clinch by Penn.
Simons fails with a takedown attempt.
Simons throws a head kick but Penn moves out of range.
Simons circles away from the clinch attempt.
Penn shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Simons tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Penn paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Simons has taken the fight to the clinch.
Simons misses with a knee to the head.
Simons misses with a knee to the head.

Simons breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Simons throws a front kick aimed at Penn's knee but Penn avoids it well.
Simons is breathing heavily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Penn throws a leg kick
and Simons counters with a thumping low kick.
John Simons seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Penn circles away from the clinch attempt.
Penn tries to clinch up but Simons circles away and keeps his distance.
Penn tries to clinch there but Simons circles away.
Simons tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Horrible takedown by Penn or perhaps it was just good defense by Simons which made him look bad.
Simons closes the distance and clinches up with Penn, looking for a takedown. Simons pushes Penn against the cage but Penn circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Simons is looking to clinch.
Penn tries to close the distance and clinch up but Simons swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Simons on the wrong end of a nice jab.
Penn shoots for a double leg takedown but Simons sprawls well. He's pushed Penn's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
John Simons has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of BJ Penn.
Simons avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Penn doesn't manage to clinch there - Simons circles away.

Penn shoots in and bounces Simons off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Penn tries to free his leg and advance position but Simons is retaining full guard.

Penn drops back, looking for a kneebar! Simons looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Simons looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Simons!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Simons decides to take the fight back to the feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Simons instigates a clinch.

Simons escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Simons fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Penn, pushing him back against the cage.
Simons landing knees to the body.

Simons escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Simons forces Penn back against the cage and clinches.

Simons escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Penn tries to clinch up.
Simons fails with an attempt to clinch.
Simons connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage!
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Simons.
Simons tries for a takedown but Penn circles away easily
and Penn counters with a lovely shot to the body.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Simons.
Penn works the jab nicely.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Simons lands a big right hand and follows it up with an uppercut. Oh and another big punch and a knee - Penn can't take much more of this! Another big shot to the jaw from Simons and Penn drops to the floor. Beaten and bloodied - he had enough there. A vicious beatdown by Simons.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:11 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). John Simons!
