The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Johnson fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Shields has Johnson up against the cage in a clinch.
Shields tries to break the clinch but Johnson is controlling the position.

Shields breaks the clinch.
Johnson shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Shields sprawls well. Shields wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Johnson gets slowly back to his feet.

Johnson looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Shields is fending him off so far but Johnson persists. Nope, Shields circles away and we're back to standing.

Johnson instigates a clinch.

Shields drags the fight down to the ground.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Shields has his hands on Johnson's head, controlling the position.

Johnson wants to control from the top but Shields keeps moving.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Vinnie Johnson was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Johnson avoids a punch combination nicely.

Shields darts in and clinches Johnson up against the cage.

Johnson blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Johnson tries to pull guard but Shields holds him up against the cage and eventually Johnson drops back down to his feet.

Johnson wants to sweep here but Shields controlling him for the moment.
Johnson really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Shields. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Johnson controls Shields momentarily but Shields frees himself.
Shields distracts Johnson with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Johnson tries to score a power double leg takedown but Shields sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Johnson somewhat.

Johnson clinches up against the cage.

Shields pulls guard successfully.

Shields is looking to sinch up a triangle. Johnson throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Shields's body to avoid the submission. Shields has instead reached around Johnson's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Shields arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.
