PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Adam Copeland (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Phil Novackii (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Copeland comes to the cage accompanied by Metalingus by Alter Bridge. Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Adam Copeland!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Phil Novackii!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Jack Bonds and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Copeland lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Novackii fails with an attempt to clinch.
Novackii tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Copeland showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Novackii.
Copeland scores with a jab to the jaw.
A decent looking cross lands there for Copeland.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Novackii is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Copeland's half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Novackii is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Novackii is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Copeland!
Copeland's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
Copeland is desperately trying to improve his position but Novackii has a good base and remains in mount.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Copeland is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.
Novackii thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.

Novackii looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
Novackii looking to finish with strikes here!

Novackii working for a submission but Copeland is keeping him at bay.
Copeland is wriggling around trying to escape.

Novackii wants to finish this one by submission but Copeland is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Novackii.

Copeland blocking the ground and pound.

Novackii is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Copeland is surviving well by controlling Novackii's body position as best he can.
Copeland is desperately trying to improve his position but Novackii has a good base and remains in mount.
Copeland is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.

Novackii looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
Novackii thowing shots but they're missing.
Novackii looks gassed!

Novackii landing strikes from the mount and Copeland is in trouble!
Copeland wants to control but Novackii is having none of it.
Copeland is squirming around, avoiding Novackii's attempts to control the action.
Novackii looking to finish with strikes here!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Novackii throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Copeland because Novackii loaded up on that one.

Novackii looking to secure an arm triangle but Copeland defends it well.
Novackii throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Copeland is trying to stand up.

Novackii working for a submission but Copeland is keeping him at bay.
Copeland can't escape the position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
You get the feeling that Copeland really doesn't like being in this position too much.
Copeland tries to hold on but Novackii pushes him away.
Novackii has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Phil Novackii will probably get the nod.
That's time! Copeland's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Copeland rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Novackii moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
A combination from Copeland does no damage.
Novackii misses with a few strikes there.
Novackii changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Copeland tries to avoid it but Novackii manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Copeland to the ground. Copeland escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Copeland keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Novackii tries to clinch but Copeland moves out of range.
Novackii fails with a takedown attempt.
Adam Copeland has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Phil Novackii.
Thud! ouch! good body kick from Copeland - that will leave a mark!
Copeland connects with a combination that backs up Novackii into the cage. Copeland lands a flurry of punches that gets past Novackii's guard. Novackii is down and the referee has seen enough. It is all over! Copeland bursts into tears - this win obviously means a huge amount to him.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:43 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Adam Copeland!
Adam Copeland decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
