Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Rick Ward (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sean Chen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ward comes to the ring accompanied by Tap Out. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Rick Ward!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Sean Chen!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Robert Twigg and Tiny Johnson.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Chen dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Ward doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Chen holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Ward escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Chen jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.
Ward will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Chen thows a body shot but no joy.

Ward shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Chen manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Ward lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Ward throws a big right hand that misses.
Ward wants to control from the top but Chen keeps moving.
Chen wants to stand and escape but Ward is having none of it.

Chen not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Ward not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Ward thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Ward drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Ward jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Ward pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Chen is keeping the position for now.
Chen tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Ward stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Chen swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Chen is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

Ward is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Ward is pushing down on Chen's leg trying to pass to half guard. Chen is fighting to maintain full guard but Ward has managed to sneak the leg through.

Ward is looking for a kimura here.

Ward looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Ward is working for a kimura but Chen is defending it quite comfortably.

That's time! Ward's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Ward tries to pull guard but Chen forces him back to his feet, against the ropes.

Chen is pushing Ward up against the ropes, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.

Ward shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Chen but Chen pushes him off and we're back to square one.

This has been an exciting period of action!

Chen breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Ward closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.

and Ward takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Ward takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Chen lands a slapping body shot.
Ward takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.

A decent looking cross lands there for Chen.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Chen!
Chen punishes Ward's body with a nice straight punch.
Ward takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.

Chen fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Ward looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Ward takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Ward has his takedown stuffed
and Chen counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

Ward takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Chen connects with a good right hand that stumbles Ward. Ward circles away out of range and recomposes himself.

Chen has closed the distance and engaged Ward in a clinch.
Sean Chen seems to be working more effectively in the clinch in the fight so far.

Rick Ward seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Sean Chen showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Ward shoots in looking for a takedown. Chen tries to sprawl out of it but Ward keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the ropes. Chen manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Chen comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.

Chen throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Ward stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Chen has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
