These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Damien Short!
The judges for this bout are Ren Mimura, Tatsuya Matsuyama and Kenichi Hosakawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gushiken throws a jab when Short was well out of range.
Gushiken lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Short fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Gushiken manages to avoid it.
Yoko Gushiken seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Gushiken cracks Short with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.

Short is trying to push Gushiken away but Gushiken has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

Gushiken stuns Short with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Short throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Short moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Short misses the shot to the body.
Gushiken misses with a few strikes there.
Short blocks a low kick nicely.
Short throws a right and a left that Gushiken avoids nicely.
Gushiken avoids the body shot from Short.
Gushiken moves out of range as Short strikes.
Gushiken lands the left hand.
Short is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Gushiken rather than just go for the knockout.
Gushiken throws a series of punches but Short moves out of range.
Gushiken digs a good body shot into Short's ribs.
Gushiken misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Short.
Gushiken throws a front kick aimed at Short's knee but Short avoids it well.
Short fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Gushiken manages to avoid it.
Gushiken uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Short has time to react.


Short is rocked!

Gushiken fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Short is still on wobbly legs! Can Gushiken finish him?

Gushiken scores with a hook to the body. Short takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Short is aggressively charging in as Gushiken backs up avoiding any damage. Gushiken tosses out a jab and Short runs right into it face first! Short is out cold! Gushiken dropped down on all fours and is barking in Short's face like a pit bull in celebration until the ref was finally able to pull him away!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:09 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Yoko Gushiken!
