PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Michael Campbell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gary Yvel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Yvel has chosen Bob Marley- No woman no cry as his entrance music. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Campbell looks for a takedown but Yvel sprawls well.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Yvel pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
The fight stays on the outside here - Yvel looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Campbell misses with a takedown
and Yvel counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Campbell is lucky that one didn't land flush.
Campbell shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Yvel defends it nicely.

Yvel throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Campbell.

Yvel throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Campbell on the side of the head.

Campbell has Yvel pressed up against the ropes. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Campbell pulls back from the ropes and twists to the side, sending Yvel tumbling to the mat - Campbell dives into Yvel's guard.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

Campbell is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Campbell is breathing heavily.
Yvel can't keep his opponent in guard - Campbell advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Campbell wants to work for an arm triangle but Yvel is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Yvel is trying to stand back up but Campbell is controlling him
Campbell wants to take a breather but Yvel is having none of it.

Campbell thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Yvel's head.

Campbell is looking for a kimura but Yvel is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Campbell to get the leverage.
Yvel really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Campbell. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Campbell shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Yvel sprawls well. Yvel wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Campbell gets slowly back to his feet.

Campbell shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Yvel cracks Campbell with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Campbell shoots for a takedown but Yvel saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

and Yvel counters with a stiff right hand.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Horrible takedown by Campbell or perhaps it was just good defense by Yvel which made him look bad.
Yvel shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Campbell eats them both and turns towards Yvel to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.

Yvel scores to the head and body with a nice combination!
Yvel stalks Campbell and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Campbell's face. Campbell staggers backwards, shaken.
Campbell shoots in for a takedown but Yvel shows good takedown defense.
Campbell doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Michael Campbell seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Yvel cracks a nice hook into Campbell's ribs.
Yvel tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Campbell walks into a left hand.

Campbell shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Yvel as he avoids it easily.
Yvel is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
Campbell takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Yvel throws a right and a left that Campbell avoids nicely.

Campbell shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Yvel as he jumps to the side.

Yvel uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Donk. Yvel catches Campbell right on the button with a cross.

and Yvel cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Campbell takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.

Gary Yvel showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

and Yvel counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Yvel connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Campbell's hands.

Yvel tries to close the distance and clinch but Campbell swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Yvel tries to bum rush Campbell with a series of wild strikes but Campbell uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Campbell dives in and grabs Yvel's left leg, looking for a takedown. Yvel pushes down on Campbell's head and hops out.
Yvel lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Yvel.

Yvel swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Campbell.
Yvel throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Campbell misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Yvel wants to clinch.
Yvel lands with a slapping head kick.
Yvel lands a really nice looking cross but Campbell seems unphased.

And that's the end of the fight!
Gary Yvel comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Yvel has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
